Are you sitting comfortably?
The weekend match report.
A brilliant performance from the Tigers this morning in rainy conditions against a good Burley side.
The game had barely started before we found ourselves 2–0 down, but instead of dropping their heads, the Tigers sprang into action. Two quick goals brought us level almost immediately and completely changed the momentum of the game.
Burley came back again to make it 3–2, and remember — all of this was still in the first quarter. Most teams would probably have been happy just staying in the game at that point, but the Tigers had other ideas. After some brilliant driving play through the middle, a powerful finish from distance made it 3–3 and completed a first-quarter hat-trick.
With changes made for the second quarter, the fresh legs made an immediate impact. A strong run into the box caused problems and the loose ball was somehow squeezed home from an incredibly tight angle to put us ahead. The hard work and energy kept coming, and another goal soon followed after more relentless pressing and attacking play.
Burley continued to battle and managed to score again, but the response was immediate with another goal restoring the advantage. By the third quarter the attacking play was really flowing, and another finish took the tally even higher.
Defensively, the effort and organisation were outstanding. Some brilliant tackling, good positional play, and strong forward carries from the back helped stop Burley building momentum. The partnership at the back was excellent all game, with both players reading the game really well and putting in some huge tackles when needed.
As the game wore on both teams started to tire, but the work rate never dropped. The Tigers defended brilliantly right to the end and added one more goal to cap off a fantastic, hard-working team performance in a 7–5 win.
There were outstanding performances all over the pitch. Powerful running through midfield caused problems throughout, while calm defending and excellent positioning helped keep things under control at the back. One player grew more and more into the game, making strong tackles, picking up second balls, and driving forward with confidence. Another was relentless after coming out of goal — tackling, dribbling, finding space, and constantly putting the opposition under pressure.
And up front, the work rate was unbelievable. Defending, midfield, attacking — covering every blade of grass and leading from the front with an incredible performance.
A massive well done to the Tigers today.
And thank you to all the parents for standing out in the rain encouraging the team — it really does help, even if apparently some of the instructions coming from the sidelines weren’t fully appreciated! 😂
Truthfully, every single player deserved it today, but the overall performance — topped off with two excellent goals — just edged it.
