This is something I’ve been trying to get into my mind for some time, so many people talk about seasons in life, motions that we go through, ups and downs and when were motivated (I don’t buy into motivation) and when we are in a pit of despair. I’ve seen this before in marketing talking brands and finical so it’s interesting to bring it to mindset.

After watching .natural.edge a few months ago, it’s taken me some time to digest, let me try to explain this in my way.

We start off on our journey with triggers that make us want to achieve more or do better, maybe this is a charity event, a health concern, a holiday or we just realise we need to be fitter and healthier. We start the journey, make objectives and make progress.

At some point, hit a plateau, we’ve met some targets and achievements, then relax and enjoy the success. Progress may take an alternative route, maybe it just stays level maybe it drops. This could also be an injury or unexpected life event that affects our mental state.

Because we hit some targets, and then lose progress mentally we drift into a more negative mindset, “I suck” “I’m doing rubbish” and continue away from progress. Yet we still may be in progress from the original start point!

Until we hit the pit of despair, this is a fundamental time for me where I need to reassess, retarget and reset my objectives. Refocus on the goal and the smaller targets to get progress back on track. This is also the time that so many people drop off and lose sight of why we started and where we can go. It’s a really tough time to fight though and everyone at TRAX will support you if you are here.

Refocussing on your targets and your big goals is the catalyst to get progress moving again and back one track.

I think in everything in life we go through these cycles, so long as in time we are always making progress, the small downs as hard as they are we gotta fight through and not let them stop us from achieving. Being realistic about timelines and goals can really help to accommodate the downs.

Where are you on the cycle?

I see guys spending weeks learning routines, planning workouts, learning new Instagram moves, following trends in training, and the new competition, when there is so much you could have done towards your goals in that time.

I had an interesting conversation with a guy months ago who does powerlifting, and he talked about "volume" It made me think.

Before all, you ego-form guys jump in and criticise, Im not saying train with bad form.

I'm also saying to perfect form with volume by doing it. Build muscles for that form/technique as you go. If you've never bench-pressed your form initially will be terrible, you don't have the muscles for that movement to have perfect form. If you’re striving for perfection do you halt progress? Make sure you're getting a workout in and not standing around for 30 mins watching someone show you how it’s done. (Some people only do 30 mins sessions)

A great example is box jumps, if you like jumping a 30” box is the aim. You can practice and not jump to learn the form, or you can start on 16” or 20” box. Get the volume of jumping to improve your form and in a few weeks be 30”. Or you can work on your form (perfection) then start on the 16” or 20” but you’re now way behind. This is work in progress, not working for perfection.

There is also a lot to be said about feeling perfect, the perfect environment (TRAX is actually perfect), the perfect time, day, week blah blah blah.

NOW is the perfect time.
YOU GOTTA JUST DO IT.

I used to wait for there to be no wind or rain to run. YEP IN HAWORTH DOESN’T HAPPEN. But now I go whatever the conditions, I even run in snow in my zoom fly, not perfect at all but I did it and made progress.

Progress can be different for many people, your progress is yours only, don't measure yourself against anyone else, especially not social media. Your only competition should be you, no one else will beat you at your race, they don't have the same training as you do.

Strive for progress, not perfection

Having worked with brands for 25 years, two words that find themselves in marketing, “competition” & “community”.

Community Definition
A community is a group of people who acknowledge their common purpose, respect their differences, share in group decision-making as well as in responsibility for the actions of the group, and support each other's growth.

Competition, as its original Latin term competere, with its meaning “to meet, to come together”

“COMMON PURPOSE”
“TO COME TOGETHER”

Many brands talked about how can we beat the competition, sounds more like a battle to me. Not coming together!!

I think back, I trained with guys every day, race day we supported each other, motivating to do the BEST WE ALL COULD. Racing for titles & awards, we still helped each other every bit of the way. Today the London marathon for example, finishers cheering on the people behind, the highest levels of sport, support each other. Muay Thai, , fought 3 times at world title level, yet they help each other. Highest-level athletes

“TO COME TOGETHER”

A comment to me this week, how I’ve improve my running, 2 mins of my mile pace. Instantly I told them how, I offered support and advice, not turn my back. I watched a guy in the gym, this week offer up support to someone new. 2 members currently competing on the sled, joining forces to elevate their success together. Every day I see people in the gym supporting and helping each other with a “ COMMON PURPOSE”. Creating a building a community for everyone. I love seeing this happen. Joining together for the bigger picture.

’COMMON PURPOSE”
“TO COME TOGETHER”

Elevating the standards across the whole community, bringing us all together, that’s the way with .gym.haworth come join our community!

Thanks, to you all for making it happen

What was your health and fitness background before joining TRAX gym? What made you look to come to a gym?

I weighed in at 20 stone back in 2021, from running virtually every day and packing in the booze I managed to lose 7 stone. I started to plateau and wasn’t getting the most out of the gym I was attending. Heard about Trax through a good friend and popped my head around the door and as they say the rest is history!

What classes do you do at TRAX and when did you start?

I started in December 2022 and attend the Boot camp and spin classes

What do you rate the most and what are your achievements at TRAX?

I get the most out of the spin class, but I’d say I rate the community of Trax the most. Also Tom is a top bloke, he will listen to any issues you are having and Taylor the workout to suit your needs, therefore, preventing any potential injuries.

What are your targets for 2023, the next 5, 10 years?

2023 I aim to complete the Yorkshire 3 peaks again and also do the National 3 peaks with the Trax family. The next 5 to 10 years I want to maintain my current weight, increase strength and tone up.

What would you say to anyone thinking of coming to TRAX GYM?

Take the plunge, and come see for yourself. It’s a fantastic environment and a great opportunity to meet new people who I now consider friends. It’s also a fantastic environment to help achieve your personal fitness goals. There’s no meat heads wondering around posing in the mirror, just the odd idiot (myself) trying to master the “prancing pony”

There are guys who have never been in a gym or done any exercise alongside guys I’ve been in gyms with for almost 20 years. There are guys for fitness, to lose weight, build muscle and some just like it to make their mind stronger. Its one community to support each other whatever your goal.

Come along we learn as you go, no messing about, get in, crack on and work b•••h 🤣🤣🤣

There is a bootcamp every day! Link in bio to booking app and timetables. Get booked in and start your life changes.

BURN UP TO
500 CALORIES.

Some guys are doing well over 800 in the session.

Spinning is a calorie-crunching workout that hits your legs as hard as your lungs, ask the guys that come?

If you do a spin what do you say to anyone wanting to try?

WHY?

There are so many reasons to look after yourself a little bit better.

Fighting infections, (not mentioning COVID), ensuring longevity in mobility, making our bodies stronger and healthier is a good thing for so many reasons! Add yours below.

You will see in my previous post my objectives are clear. This post doesn’t talk about the battles with lifelong asthma, ongoing pneumonia, arthritis and mental health complications. Yet at 430 Sunday morning, alarm goes off, I get up and I’m running by 530….

THIS IS NOTHING TO DO WITH MOTIVATION.
Motivation does not exist at 430am on a Sunday….

MY OBJECTIVES ARE CLEAR AND THE PLAN IS SET.

Sometimes I have conversations with strange things, like my trainers usually but I win these battles as I know where I want to be and how to get there. All I have to do is stick to the plan, stay on the path to the goal and don’t let the fluctuations in motivation, the asthma flare-ups, the pneumonia cough or the ache in the joints stop me. .

Everyone has an EXCUSE and I’ve heard (and used) them all.
What’s yours?
How are you going to overcome it?

Yeah there is a holiday in 6 months, the wedding, party, big birthday... whatever, what happens after, you go back to eating crap and being lazy.

\What’s the life goal, what can you keep up forever and why? What’s the bigger picture for LIFE?

What is the big objective for you?

What do you want to know about me?

I started running at 4 years old, 40 years ago and I’m still at it with big targets in coming years. I ran at English School, with the best, at cross country, on the track competing at various events, long-distance running to pentathlon and sprints. Achieved British number 1 at Fell running with many achievements in running, and I still run on and off road, currently 35 miles per week but this will be at 50 by the end of March.

Having competed in Karate, Swimming, Squash & playing football at a high level I have a vast experience in sports & fitness and what’s needed at a high level. I competed in Muay Thai whilst training others for their competitors, Including UK, European and World titles.

My training has always been cross-fitness, mixing in running drills, sprints, footwork drills, circuits, strength training, and HIIT training. I also bring together a wealth of experience in the conditioning needed for martial arts. Taking into my training a more modern approach to mobility, balance and flexibility, supporting rehabilitation and prevention of injuries.

With vast hands-on experience, this isn’t only for high level, I use this knowledge to get everyone moving, from total beginners to those competing at many different sports. Along with my passion and infectious energy, I want to make everyone succeed in their goals.

Being in fitness all my life, I still have my own objectives. In 15 years I’ll be as fit and strong as I am now, my son is 3 at the and I’ll be as fit as he is when he’s 18, to keep up with him! The last year, I’ve gained the most in my fitness for a long time, at 44, I am truly committed to myself and those on the journey with me.

Making you do what I do and I work in the spin sessions. If you are doing it I will already have. You will see me running before sessions & I believe in setting a good example, not just what say.

Let's chat if you want to know more.

Setting your goals can be a daunting task, being 3 months into the year and you are making progress on your yearly goals, and staying realistic about the timeframe needed for the bigger goals.

By now you should have had some small wins and seen progress towards the bigger goals.

Smaller aims, like getting to the gym 3 times a week are more realistic, losing 5 stone and having a 6 pack in a month is not realistic. If you have had other commitments for the last few, maybe 10 years. We aren't making you the person you were in a few weeks, BUT 6 months of hard graft and commitment can make a real difference.

Realistically give yourself the right time to achieve your goals, if your not sure what this is let's chat. Im sure we can figure out a plan to get you on track and with a clear target.
