“Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story.
Over the next year, I’ll be fundraising for a cause that’s incredibly close to my heart—and my family’s. When I was just 4 years old, we tragically lost our amazing dad, Mark David Raven, to SADS (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome). Now, as a father myself to two beautiful girls, and surrounded by many young, healthy families, I can only begin to understand the pain and impact this must have had on my mum, family, and all who knew and loved him.
Throughout the coming months, I’ll be taking part in various fundraising and running events, with my main goal being the Manchester Marathon on April 19th, 2026. Running a marathon has always been something I’ve dreamed of, and after developing a real passion for running, I finally decided to go for it.
Part of the reason it’s taken me until now—age 32—to sign up, is because I’ve always wanted my first marathon to be meaningful. I’ve long hoped to run it in honour of my dad, raising funds for SADS UK, a charity that works tirelessly to raise awareness and help prevent sudden cardiac deaths in young people and adults alike. With their support behind me, I’m using this time leading up to the marathon to raise as much awareness—and funds—as I possibly can.
If this helps even one family avoid the heartbreak we experienced, then I know I’ll have honoured my dad in the best way I can.”
