Paddle Safer Beginner Course - 4th and 6th September

This course is run by club coaches to introduce new paddlers to the safety skills needed to enjoy paddling. This is available on our events list now and will be a great course for anyone who has joined us or just started paddling this year.

We have just two pool sessions left before we break for the summer. June 26th and July 3rd, all are welcome, hone your skills or just get back on the water.

We have river session on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. During the cooler months we also have pool sessions at Hillsborough Leisure Centre on a Friday night.

Well done to three of our members, racing at Marple Slalomfest today. The sun was out the river was cool and it was a great course.
Two more members are racing tomorrow, good luck.

Coming soon - Oughtibridge Slalom Weekend

On April 25/26th we are running the first of our two annual Slalom race weekends. These are exciting and fun events, even if you don't paddle the course at Oughtibridge gives a great opportunity to watch the action while having coffee or bacon sandwich from the catering tent.

If you've not been before, or Slalom hasn't been your thing before. Our weekends have two Division 3 and 4 class races, one on each day and include multiple categories such as kayak, canoe and single or double. In April we are also including Wildwater racing for anyone who wants to give it a try.

This last week we have made a huge upgrade to our river site. A new set of steps has been installed, curtesy of funding provided by Paddle UK and local company Gripple Ltd. Here's some photos from Sunday and their first use by the club.

The work started on Monday with volunteers from Gripple and the Club removing the old steps and preparing the site for the install. The installation was carried out by Diomet (a local firm) and desite the wet weather this week we have managed to complete the work.

We couldn't have achieved this without the funding partners and the wonderful volunteers from Gripple. They were optimistic and enthusiastic despite the daunting, wet and muddy task. Thanks to everyone involved.

This last weekend we had the Woodhead Mountain Rescue team down for some fast moving water training.
It's not just us kayakers who make the most of all this rain.

This weekend we are hosting a division 3 & 4 Canoe Slalom race at Forge Lane. Racing starts at 11am and 1.30pm both days.

All spectators are welcome and hot food and drink will be available until 3pm on Sat & Sun.

If you'd like to enter, please arrive in time as entries close at 10am. We've improved the course this summer, thanks to some great work by our members.
