Grahame Giddings sadly passed way in December after a long battle with illness. He played for the club from 1991 to 2013 and continued as a scorer until 2018. During this time, he was of great service to the club both as a player and for his work behind the scenes.
Grahame made 593 appearances, scoring 8,169 runs at an average of 19.50 with highest score of 90 not out, taking 291 wickets at 18.69, holding 157 catches and completing 3 stumpings. He was Sunday 2nd XI Captain from 1993 to 1995 (in 1994 his team was undefeated for the whole season) and Saturday 1st XI Captain 2010. He won the Sunday 2nd XI Batting Cup 2003 and Sunday 1st XI Batting Cup in 2004.
Behind the scenes he was an active committee member throughout most of his time with the club, becoming Chairman between 2000-2005. His commitment was reflected in winning the Club Cup in 1998, 2002, 2003, 2004 & 2012, voted by the membership for the person contributing the most to the club throughout the season.
As a computer professional he personally developed a Cricket Stats Computer Programme which he marketed and sold to cricket clubs across the world. For each sale made he donated a percentage to the club, raising £5k which was used to help finance the current nets. Using this programme, he produced extensive records for the club and his annual statistical survey handed out at the AGM rivalled Wisden’s.
To commemorate Grahame the club will start our opening inter club game on the 4th of May with a minute’s applause in his memory. In addition, a small collection made at his funeral was given to the club by his family to purchase a suitable memorial. We would like to add to these collection monies and purchase an Awards Board for the Clubhouse, both as a fitting tribute to Grahame and something needed by the club.
If you would like to contribute towards this purchase, there is collection box at the club, or you can make a bank transfer using the details below:
