Zetsurin Karate Welcome to Zetsurin! The safe and friendly place for adults and children to learn traditional karate in the Otley area. For self-defence, fitness and fun!

Karate means “empty hand” and its origins can be traced back to China, though the island of Okinawa is often regarded as its birthplace. As a sport karate can help to develop strength, fitness , flexibility and spirit whilst at the same time increasing confidence and an awareness of self-defence. Th

e style of karate practiced by our club is Shukokai, which means “the way for all”, and was introduced to England in 1968 by Japanese Senseis Tani and Kimura. Though sadly, both Senseis are now no longer with us, their legacy remains as strong as ever, with Shukokai continuing to be well recognised and regarded. As a new member, you become part of the Zetsurin family and as such will be supported by your Senseis and fellow students as you embark on your karate journey. Well done to Sasha, who was awarded the student of the month trophy for May at class on Thursday evening.
So very well deserved as Sasha has taken her training seriously from day one and is a much valued member of Zetsurin.
She is enthusiastic, helpful,encouraging and a very positive role model.
Always pushing herself to improve and willing to go that extra mile by attending courses and competitions.
We are lucky to have you at the dojo Sasha!

Massive “Well Done!” to our fab students who showcased their skills at the Westgate Primary School demonstration during a whole school assembly this morning.
Not easy to stand up and perform in front of so many people, but you were all fantastic.
Well done also to the school’s Year 5 group who were so enthusiastic, polite and disciplined when they visited the Dojo for a 1hour session after the assembly.👌👏🥋
Sensei Ruth opted for a slight clothing change this morning. 😉👘
