Why I chose to be a personal trainer over working in a lab as a research analyst. 💛

A question I don’t get asked often, but one that says a lot about who I am.

I studied a science based degree with research analysis very much on the cards as a career path. Lab coats. Data. Analysis. A stable, structured career.

And then I had to be really honest with myself. 😊

I didn’t want to spend my days behind a desk or in a lab. I wanted movement. I wanted energy. I wanted to be active in my work not just thinking about activity, but actually doing it. Every single day. 💛

I wanted a career that got me up, got me moving and got me genuinely excited to start work each morning. One where no two days looked the same. Where I was using my body as much as my mind.

So I chose personal training and run coaching instead.

And I have never once regretted it. 💛

There’s something incredibly fulfilling about a hands on, active career. About coaching someone through a session rather than analysing a spreadsheet. About seeing real, tangible change in someone in front of you rather than data on a screen. 💛

I get to move every single day. I get to be present with people rather than buried in research. I get to build genuine relationships rather than work in isolation.

It’s not the path most people expected from someone with my background. But it’s the path that was actually right for me. 💛

Sometimes the best career decision is choosing what makes you feel alive not just what looks good on paper.

If you’re looking for a coach who is genuinely passionate about what they do, I’d love to help. 👇

Because life isn’t just about training. 😄💛

This is me at the weekend. Leopard print trousers. Giant giraffe. A Two Wild birthday party. 🦒

And absolutely zero talk of training plans or running pace. 😄

Because this is the thing nobody really tells you about health and fitness, it’s not about living in the gym or obsessing over what you eat.

It’s about building sustainable lifestyle habits that give you the energy, strength and vitality to fully show up for the moments that actually matter.

The birthday parties. The weekends. The memories. The people you love. 💛

That’s why I do what I do.

Not quick fixes. Not fad diets. Not rigid rules.

Just simple sustainable changes to how you move, how you eat and how you look after yourself, that become part of your everyday life rather than something you have to think about. 💛

That’s where real lasting change happens.

6 weeks post gallbladder surgery and honestly, just really grateful to be back on my feet, feeling well and celebrating the people I love. 😊

If you want to feel stronger and more energetic in your everyday life, not just in the gym, I’d love to help.

Why did you get into health and fitness? 💛

For a lot of people it starts with aesthetics. Wanting to look different. And that’s completely valid.

But for many of us it goes so much deeper than that.

For me it was my health during pregnancy. I was diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis and gestational diabetes. And in that moment everything shifted. 😔

When your health is at risk suddenly how you look in the mirror becomes completely irrelevant. What matters is how you feel. How you function. How you take care of the body you live in. 💛

That was the moment I truly understood why looking after yourself matters.

And then 5 weeks ago I had my gallbladder removed. Another reminder that our bodies are always communicating with us. And that we have to listen. 💛

Facing adversity changes you. It makes you realise your body isn’t something to be critiqued, it’s something to be nurtured and looked after. Not for how it looks but for what it can do.

And that is a far more powerful motivator than any aesthetic goal. 💛

So if your reason for starting is about managing a health condition, recovering from illness, protecting your future self or just wanting to feel stronger and healthier, that reason is not only valid. It’s the most powerful reason of all. 💛

5 weeks post surgery and back doing what I love.

I’ve been a personal trainer for 6 years. And I’m only just realising what makes my approach different. 💛

There’s a lot of talk right now about nervous system regulation. About how the way we move and breathe can directly affect how safe, calm and present we feel in our bodies.

And I’ve just realised. That’s exactly what I’ve always done. 😊

No bootcamp. No HIIT. No racing through reps to a timer.

Just intentional movement and breath. Slowing down enough to actually feel what your body is doing. Connecting your mind to the movement. Being fully present. 💛

It’s a holistic approach to training. One that looks after your whole self, not just your body.

Here’s what happens when we train this way:

Moving with intention and focusing on breath activates your parasympathetic nervous system, your rest and digest response. Cortisol drops. Stress reduces. You feel calmer, clearer and more grounded. 💛

My clients arrive carrying the weight of their day. They leave feeling better in themselves. Every single time.

We still work hard. My clients get stronger and fitter every week. But in a way that feels sustainable, empowering and enjoyable. 💛

This is especially powerful if you:

• Feel overwhelmed or anxious
• Are recovering from burnout or illness
• Have always found high intensity exercise too much
• Just want to feel more at home in your body 💛

6 years of coaching and it took me until now to fully understand what makes what I do different.

I think that’s worth sharing 💛

Fat loss, maintenance and yo yo dieting. Let’s talk about it. 💛

I’ve just lost 10lb during my gallbladder surgery recovery due to an enforced low fat diet.

Sounds great. It really isn’t. 😔

I’ve lost muscle. I’ve felt exhausted. My body doesn’t feel like mine. And the moment I eat normally again most of it will come back.

That’s exactly how yo yo dieting works. And it’s one of the most damaging cycles I see people go through. 💛

Why yo yo dieting is so harmful:

• It slows your metabolism over time
• Your body goes into survival mode and stores more fat
• You lose muscle with every cycle making it harder to maintain weight
• It creates a really damaging relationship with food
• It affects your hormones, energy and mood 💛

Lose weight. Regain it. Lose it again. Regain more. Round and round. Not because of lack of willpower but because the approach was never sustainable.

The bit nobody talks about enough?

Maintenance. 💛

Getting to your goal is one thing. Staying there is where most people struggle. Because maintenance requires a completely different mindset, less restriction, more consistency and a sustainable relationship with food that works for your real life long term.

What actually works for fat loss AND maintenance:

• A modest calorie deficit not starvation
• Enough protein to preserve muscle
• Healthy fats included never cut them out completely
• Complex carbohydrates for energy
• Strength training to build and protect muscle
• Consistency over perfection 💛

Slow. Sustainable. And it actually lasts.

My own recovery has reminded me exactly why I would never recommend extreme low fat dieting to any of my clients. 💛

If you want support with fat loss that doesn’t leave you back at square one in six months, I’d love to help.

Just 90 minutes of strength training a week could save your life. 💛

New research published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine has found that doing 90 minutes to two hours of weight training per week can reduce the risk of premature death from any cause by 13%.

But it gets even more powerful than that:

🏋️‍♀️ Risk of dying from heart disease or stroke, 19% lower
🧠 Risk of dying from neurological disease like dementia, 27% lower
💪 Combined with regular cardio, risk of early death reduced by up to 58% 💛

And here’s the really important bit, you don’t need to spend hours in the gym. The research found that more than two hours a week didn’t deliver any extra benefit. It’s about consistency not volume.

This is exactly why I do what I do. 💛

Strength training isn’t just about how you look. It’s about how long and how well you live. It’s about being independent in your 70s, 80s and 90s. Being able to travel, pick up your grandkids and live life on your own terms.

I see it with my clients every single week, more energy, stronger joints, better mood, improved confidence. The benefits go so far beyond the gym. 💛

90 minutes a week. That’s three 30 minute sessions. That’s completely achievable.

And it could change everything.

If you’ve been thinking about starting your strength training journey I’d love to help. 💛

Ever wondered what a 1-1 PT session with me actually looks like? Let me walk you through it. 💛

Because I think a lot of people don’t book a personal trainer because they don’t know what to expect. And the unknown can feel intimidating.

So let’s remove that barrier completely.

Before we even start 😊
Every new client begins with a thorough consultation. We talk about your goals, your history with exercise, any injuries or health considerations, your lifestyle and what you actually enjoy. This isn’t a box ticking exercise it’s how I build a programme that actually works for you. 💛

Your programme
Based on your consultation I design a programme specifically for you. Not a template. Not something I use for everyone. Something built around your body, your goals and your life.

The session itself 💛
Sessions are held in my private studio, a safe, comfortable and completely judgement free environment. Just you and me.

We work through your programme together. I demonstrate exercises, correct your form and technique, push you when you’re ready and support you when you need it. Every single rep matters and I’m watching every single one. 💛

The check in
At the end of every session we review how it went. What felt good, what was challenging, what we need to adjust. Your programme evolves as you do.

The ongoing support
My clients don’t just hear from me during sessions. I’m available between sessions for questions, advice and support. Because progress happens between sessions too. 💛

What you won’t find:

• Judgement
• A generic plan
• Being left to figure it out alone
• Feeling intimidated or overwhelmed 💛

What you will find:

• A coach who genuinely cares
• A programme built entirely around you
• Laughter, always laughter 😄
• Real sustainable results 💛

I’m opening new client slots from mid June/July. If you’ve been thinking about it, now is the perfect time to get in touch.

A 5 star review that really made my day. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is exactly what a thorough run coaching assessment looks like.

Understanding where you are right now, your form, your gait, your strengths and your areas to work on, is the foundation of everything. Without that assessment any programme is just guesswork.

This client came to me wanting to improve and left with a clear, specific and personalised plan to do exactly that. Core strength, balance and gait efficiency, all areas that make a real difference to running performance and injury prevention. 💛

Here’s what they had to say:

“A comprehensive assessment of my current form leading to a range of suggestions to improve core strength, balance and altering gait to improve efficiency. A solid investment to aid my goals.”

This is what run coaching with me looks like. Not generic advice. Not a one size fits all plan. A proper individual assessment followed by a programme built specifically around you and your goals. 💛

If you’d like a comprehensive running assessment, I’d love to help.

Exercise and mental health. Let’s talk about the science. 💛

We all know exercise is good for us physically. But the impact it has on our mental health is just as powerful, and nowhere near talked about enough.

Here’s what actually happens in your brain when you move your body:

Endorphins are released 💛

Exercise triggers the release of endorphins, your brain’s natural feel good chemicals. This is why even a short walk can shift your mood almost immediately.

Cortisol is reduced.

Cortisol is your stress hormone. Regular exercise helps regulate and reduce cortisol levels meaning you become more resilient to stress over time. 💛

Serotonin and dopamine increase.

These are your happiness and motivation neurotransmitters. Exercise boosts both which is why regular movement has been shown to be as effective as medication for mild to moderate depression in some studies.

Sleep improves.

Exercise helps regulate your sleep patterns. Better sleep means better mood, better focus and better emotional regulation. 💛

Self confidence grows.

As you get stronger and fitter your relationship with your body changes. You start to feel capable. Proud. Powerful. That mindset shift goes far beyond the gym.

Brain fog lifts.

Exercise increases blood flow to the brain improving concentration, memory and mental clarity. 💛

The really important thing:

You don’t need to run a marathon or spend hours in the gym to feel these benefits. Research shows that just 30 minutes of moderate exercise three times a week is enough to make a meaningful difference to your mental health.

A walk. A PT session. A run. It all counts. 💛

I started running 12 years ago because I needed headspace. Because I needed something just for me. And it changed my life not just physically but mentally and emotionally too.

That’s why I do what I do. Because I’ve felt it myself.

And I want to help others feel it too. 💛

If you’re ready to start I’d love to help.

This one still makes me smile every time I read it. 💛

Building confidence, changing mindsets and helping people realise they’re capable of more than they ever thought possible, that’s why I do what I do.

Oh and the laughter. Always the laughter. 😄💛

Here’s what this client had to say:

“Emma listened to what mattered to me and built a programme around that. She pushed me when I needed it and supported me when I didn’t. I developed a positive mindset, learned to be proud of my achievements and realised I could do more than I thought. I’ve never laughed so much in a workout — mostly at my own lack of balance! I genuinely feel like I’ve made a really good friend.”

No judgement. No one size fits all. Just proper personalised training that fits around your life and makes you feel brilliant. 💛

Sound like what you need?
