Carving with the midland Aptgw today.

Cherry serving spoon - left handed, as dictated by the spiraling crook as grown by nature.

Not carving many spoons at the moment but it was nice to sit by the fire and car e this over the last two meetings.

This June at forest school we have mainly been enjoying the warm and lush woodland.

Excellent work by all the groups I've seen this very busy month of June with and explore nature.

Beautiful demoiselle damsel fly (male).
Caloptery x virgo

I was lucky enough to find this just outside my house sunning itself on an old rotten fence post.

A lot of insects are suddenly appearing after a long wet winter.

Definitely feeling like summer is just around the corner.

I had a few gifts as thanks for my part in running the ball etc handed to me last thing yesterday, spoons, flint arrow heads, chair parts, wood and all sorts of delightful things.

But this is one of my favourites, as it came from my local bodgers and friends.

Ash and oak bottle opener.

Made my day.

Thanks everyone.

First post in a while but worth a share, spent an incredibly interesting and intense and exciting and emotional and tiring and energetic week working at the ball and AGM at the .

One of the best bits was a night standing in a field with some bloody excellent people watching the light show of aurora.

I can do a lot to enhance the ball but can't promise it for next year!!!

Carving the last of last year's cherry with some really sharp spoon knives and my trusty .djarv sloyd knife, all nice and recently sharpened and carving wonderfully.

Beautifully simple yet efficient.

I'm really enjoying my time spent learning this craft, especially in taking slow steady steps in taking a straight lath and making an elegantly curved form.
-
I spent more time sanding and setting than actually pining but it was time well spent as I made a lovely form that has held shape properly.

Coracle making day today.
-
Spent a very enjoyable day crafting my first green ash frame Coracle in the ironbridge style.
-
Having spent my childhood literally on the banks of the river teifi in Pembrokeshire I've always loved and respected the ancient tradition of Coracle fishing and have always wanted to build one of my own. Seeing as I was however born in Longbridge, the ironbridge style is still close to my heart.
-
Paddle making, fish guard to install and more to work on tomorrow.
