The ladies finished the season on a WIN!! Congratulations ladies! It has been a very tough season, but with a full team and determination to end on a high, they won their final game of the season in style!
We had the return of Wendy, a very long time coming and we are so glad to have her back on the pitch! And it was a lovely return for Katie who volunteered to go in goal for us! Nice to see you on the pitch again ladies 💚
The game wasn't easy for Oswestry, but with a strong 11 we managed to dominate and score two brilliant goals in the first half.. the first finished by Jo, and the second by top goal scorer Tracey! We were 2-0 up at half time, playing well, and so determined to not let Deeside in! There were some brilliant saves from Katie and defence to put a stop to Deeside's attack.
The second half didn't flow quite as easily, and we slipped slightly and Deeside got the better of us scoring their only goal of the game. Os were goaless in the second half, but we had their chances as frustrating as it was because Deeside's keeper was very good! An unfortunate incident in the second half through no fault of Os saw both teams down to ten players, but only for two minutes!
We held it till the very end! And WE WON!! The message here.. NEVER GIVE UP. Well played ladies! And congrats on the win 💪💚

Saturday saw another loss for the ladies who yet again didn't have a full team, but Lymm were so full of praise of Os for still showing up to play despite the lack of players! Lymm know how good Os can be, and have been in the past!
Oswestry got off to a bit of a rocky start. Lymm got on the scoreboard fairly early in the first half and since then it seemed relentless. Lymm were strong, and could utilise the space well where Os lacked the players. Os tried, and performed some amazing saves, but couldn't save them all. Os did attack, but struggled to finalise. Oswestry defended extremely well, and were able to hold Lymm on short corners and most of their shots.
What felt like a very long time to Os in the first half, they gained their first short corner. No idea how well Lymm would defend this, Os just tried to do what they could under pressure. A few quick passes, and boom!! Oswestry scored! Lovely finish from Tracey to get Os's first goal of the game, which gave the whole team the boost they needed.
Half time. Score was 8-1 unfortunately. Oswestry were playing well considering and never give up. Play was a lot better in the second half. Somehow Oswestry were able to make themselves wider and Lymm weren't finding it so easy to get past. Os's performance gelled a bit better, and Lymm only scored 2 more goals in the second half which just goes to show the improvement in Os despite getting tired! Highlight of the game has to come from the very last short corner, which was Os's to capitalise on. Final whistle had blown. Os's second short corner of the game. They tried the first tactic and it didnt work.. rebounds from Lymm's saves were still in play.. second shot on goal deflected again.. to then be put against the backboard by Izzy who deflected the ball into the goal from the air! What a way to score your first goal for the club!! 2 short corners for Os, and 100% success rate in scoring.
Tough luck ladies, team performance was awesome but the missing players made a difference. Heads held high, and high praise from the opposition which was nice to receive! Keep going, almost the end of the season! 💚

The women are at it again tomorrow which what feels like forever since their last game! Away against Lymm 3s, 1.30pm pushback. Good luck Os!

Unfortunately, the ladies had to take the tough decision to forfeit today's game against Sandbach 1s. It is not a decision we make lightly as we always turn up to games despite not having full teams.. but with 3 of the 8 players named on today's team sheet (as pictured) not being very well, it just was not possible for Oswestry to travel today. Apologies to the team, and apologies to Sandbach. These things can't be helped, and it's just unfortunate 3 of us have come down with the lurgy 😷.
It's a shame we don't have more players so as these unfortunate circumstances don't affect whether we can play or not.. if you are interested in joining the team, please get in touch! It would be great to have new faces (we recruit all the time of all ages and levels), and we will be relegated this season for the start of next, where we will come back stronger! This season has been difficult due to playing some teams that are of higher level than our division (the restructure hasn't gone in some of the teams favours in our division this year), and not being able to field a full team each week has it's extra challenge against such strong teams! We try, have fun whilst we play, but it has been hard! It's more than just winning as we have fun no matter what 💚
