Here at ASTAR we offer lots of different ways to praise and celebrate student successes.

We offer exams with IDTA & NPAA - both in person and via video submission

We also have our future dance teachers programme running for our students aged 11 & above

For the children who don’t want to take exams we offer in house assessments through the INTERNATIONAL DANCE REWARDS system.

And we also have a comp team too 🏆

So no matter if your child wants to dance just for fun, would like to take exams and gain extra QUAL points or if they want to make it a career, maybe even a dance teacher - here at ASTAR we can help you on your way! 😊

13 years ago today ASTAR opened its doors at Netherton Village Hall running classes on a Friday evening & Saturday morning.

Since then we expanded into Gawthorpe and then in 2021 we opened our own studios in Ossett and merged both branches together 🥰

I couldn’t be more proud of the dance community we’ve created!!

Thank you to all those who have had any involvement in ASTAR over the years 🥰

Future Dance Teachers might start in the dance studio, but the skills students develop can go with them wherever life takes them.

Some of our FDT students may go on to become brilliant dance teachers.

Others might become nurses, lawyers, paramedics, business owners, therapists, teachers... or choose a career they haven't even discovered yet!

FDT isn't about choosing their future for them.

It's about giving young people the skills, experience and confidence to have more choices when they get there. 💗

Because leadership skills aren't just for future dance teachers.

They're skills for the future.

In 2020, my mum had two brain haemorrhages. With earlier intervention, things might have been so different.

That heartbreak lit a fire in me. As a graduate of Harvard Medical School's Women's Health and Wellness Program, I couldn't unsee what I then learned: women in mid-life are being failed by cardiovascular care.

💚 Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women worldwide, claiming around 8.6 million lives a year
💚 Women are 50% more likely than men to receive a wrong initial diagnosis after a heart attack
💚 So many are sent home from A&E, told it's "just menopause" or "just getting older" — until it's too late

That's why I designed an early detection cardiovascular screening programme for women in mid-life. It looks at 7 non-invasive markers and gives a 14-point CVD risk score, so we can catch problems BEFORE they become emergencies.

Now I need your help to take it further. I'm calling on healthcare charities to fund this, and on policymakers to make early screening part of routine women's health check-ups (ages 40–65).
