There is new stencil signage for the dog walkers.

Why not any speed limit signs or paint on the speed bumps for vehicles accessing the site??

With another area of grass being cut, does this mean there will be cars parked on it again soon?

Let’s watch this space…..

Still awaiting updates from the council but there has been some activity surrounding a few concerns raised.

Get this signed wether you use it or not as one day you might just want to visit.

These guys have stepped up and added a valued asset to the town, providing private hire swimming facilities for the community, something promised for Ossett by the council some 30 years ago!

We completed the last survey and have just completed another.
It takes no longer than 5 minutes to complete and you can specify what area/park you visit if it is not shown as an option.

Hundreds completed our Parks Survey last year and the responses fed into our priorities and plans – thank you 🙌

Can you help us again this year? 🙏

This is a copy of the cycling facilities bid request form we were asked to submit by the coroporate landlord at the council back in March of this year.

We have again been told by Guy Harrison this morning that a formal process has not begun for spring mill yet, he is not aware of any other discussions and a CAT is likely the best route given the amount of interest in the site.

We have also emailed the council leader, Denise Jeffery to get some clear answers for everyone as she was the one who originally told us to start with the project….

15/08/2023

We have had some clarification on the future of the site and can confirm that no plans have been agreed and no decisions have been made.
We have messaged Guy Harrison at the council and his reply has confirmed that due to the amount of interest in the site another Community Asset Transfer (CAT) will be progressed and advertising will be put up with appropriate time for applications.

A third CAT in as many years, so we feel this is just delaying things further and puts any plans for the future of the site on hold for now…..

Edit.
This also means this page will now continue and the proposal we were previously putting together for the last transfer will carry on and be put forward for consideration when the next one is announced.

Good morning everyone.

Sorry for the lack of updates so far this year, we can only say this is due to the lack of them from the council.
The last we heard was they were considering creating more space for allotments at spring mill and nothing was decided.
Then large areas were cut to allow it to be used as an overflow car park just a few weeks ago.

After submitting a formal bid to the corporate landlord for future recreational cycling facilities in the district back in early March of this year, we have heard nothing from the council since then….
No acknowledgment of the bid.
No replies to several email enquiries made after.
To hear absolutely nothing from them in nearly 6 months is puzzling to work out…. But then again, maybe it isn’t…..

The good news on this is another group of dedicated people seem to have made more progress than us this year and have plans for a dedicated bike park to be built at spring mill.
They have set up a social media page and that is Ossett Bike Park.

This is the message we received from them last night….

“Hi thank you for your message! I have had plans approved by the council for this bike park and we are currently in the design phase of the project. Once the design is complete then we are building the park ourselves and we have professional riders assisting at every stage. The council are funding the bike park and hopefully it will be a really great thing for the community”.

So get over to their page and give them a like and a follow instead as it seems we are passing the batten on and this page will be closed.
We would like to thank you for your thoughts and support while the page has been live.

We wish Ossett bike park all the best for the future in their new venture for spring mill.
We hope it can be a success and can’t come soon enough!

£1.3 mil is some real investment for Frickley!

Will the west side of the district see some similar funding in recreational facilities soon?

Are there any outdoor floodlight pitches for use in Horbury or Ossett like the new one at Frickley?

📢We’re excited that a new £1.3m all-weather ⚽️ football pitch is to be officially opened on Saturday ( July 2nd).📢

👀Local residents are invited come to the opening day. It starts at 10am with a ribbon cutting, to be followed by three ⚽️football matches at 10am, 12 noon and 2pm. Refreshments will be available.👀

✔️The new facilities will enhance sporting facilities for children and adults in the south east of the Wakefield district.

✔️They’ll also increase training and matches for children’s and community football teams in the area, as well as for casual recreational use.

The pond in spring mill is well over due some tlc….

The good news is the council seem to understand there is some importance to this maintenance with work to be planned for thornes park pond.

Hopefully they will add the pond at spring mill to the schedule of works this winter….

Everyone loves the lake in Thornes Park but it can sometimes smell and is in need of some improvements for both visitors and the wildlife that lives there 🦆

Bathymetric surveys have been carried out identifying a significant build up of silt in the lake affecting the inlet and outlet. This is made up of leaves, dead aquatic plants and weeds, fish and bird waste, and other decaying organic matter.

Silt reduces moving water, causing stagnation and further depleting oxygen levels. The good news is that the silt is able to be cleared effectively without draining the lake.

The clearance of this silt is due to be completed during winter dormancy so as to have minimal impact on the natural environment.

Works to improve the area around the lake including new knee rail fencing, planters, repairing of paths and new seating are being finalised and I will share dates for work as soon as they are available.

This project has taken longer than expected for many reasons but it will be good to see the duck pond looking back to its best in the not too distant future.
