Thank You

Thanks so much to everyone who contributed and/or came to our awards evening last night.

It was a hugely successful night and fabulous to see our athletes and officials recognised. It also says a lot about our growing culture that people wanted to attend to celebrate the success of their friends and team mates, even if they didn’t win an award themselves. The truth is that every single person that has been to the club this last year, who has helped in any way has contributed to, what feels like, a real community club that welcomes everyone.

We’re also not short in success either, last night we had 4 GB athletes who came to share in the success of others. I’m sure that those people will have helped inspire our current athletes to be the best version of them that they can be.

The effort that went into the evening from Fiona didn’t go unnoticed and I’m sure you’ll all agree that the venue looked great, thank you Fiona.

It was heartwarming to see Ray there with members of his most recent team and of course those from the past.

It was a fitting tribute to both him and Trish that so many of their athletes attended.

I’m very proud to be the chair of this club.

Thanks once again

Kit

Did you know that this week is Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport Week.
This year it will be focusing on, building safer sporting communities for children and young people.

"A key factor of keeping children safe in sport are parents and carers. Sport is safest when everyone plays their role in keeping children safe! Our aim for Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport is to bring the sporting community together, create an open and inclusive culture where parents feel able to speak up and raise any questions or concerns and help keep sport safe and fun for everyone.”

CLUB TOTE - ARE YOU IN IT?

Earlier this year we relaunched the club tote. This is a great opportunity to support the club whilst having a chance to win yourself.
Each number costs £5 per month with £2.50 going into the prize fund and £2.50 going to support the club. A number is drawn each month, with the winning person receiving all the prize fund for that month.
It's things like the tote that help us fund events like the awards evening, travel and upkeep of the club, so please enter if you are able to. Full details and how to join are on this link .. remember, you've got to be in it to win it!

Another really good turnout for our 4th Social Run. We had 3 new people on the run tonight, 1 of whom is new to LPS.

The 8.5k route tonight was set by Tracy Berry and Phil Berry with Neil Roberts and Sharon Roberts guiding the group.

There’s been a lot of interest in the social run as it gives people the opportunity to run with others at a pace that’s comfortable for them.

We’ve already seen members of the social run join LPS with others expressing an interest. That’s the point, we want to be inclusive and give everybody the opportunity to take part and feel part of a team.

If you, your friends or family want to join please click on this link.

Ormskirk Parkrun… LP&S ‘takeover’ - by Debbie Crook

For those who are old enough to remember Boys from the Blackstuff (which I’m just about to go and watch) there was no need this morning for the famous catch phrase “Gis a job”, as Kit and Run Director Keith Farrer had everything worked out with military precision for today’s ‘LP&S Parkrun takeover’.
In the lovely spring sunshine, and with the gazebo up but thankfully not needed, the runners started to arrive. In collaboration with some of the Parkrun regulars we had all marshal positions covered, even doubled up on some, and seventeen pacers for the 393 participants that attended.

From my vantage point at the pond ‘the tunes’ were playing and the runners started coming thick and fast. First LPS athlete to come through was Dan Procter who finished 2nd overall with a new PB of 17:28, soon followed by Matthew Bennett who finished 5th and Harrison Wright who joined us for the first time at Ormskirk Parkrun and finished in a fantastic 8th place.
Swapping the ‘throwing’ hammer for running shoes we had Mar-bel Casey making her debut at adult Parkrun, making use of Sharon Roberts doing a fabulous job at pacing, and watched over by a very “proud mamma” who was marshalling at the “half zig-zag” point.

The pacers did a fantastic job covering from 19 to 34 minutes, and this is reflected in the fact that there were 82 PBs achieved overall today! These included PB’s for some of our LP&S athletes with Jack Clancy (19:43), Leo Sandells (20:44), Ivor Holroyd (21:11), Mina Griffin (22:23), Sam Clancy (23:27) and Kevin Griffin (28:07). Jack was eager to break the 20 minute barrier today, and I’m not sure if he borrowed Mar-Bel’s hammer because I would say that he absolutely smashed it!

It's always great to be able to fulfil the role of ‘pond marshal’ where I witness so many people starting their weekend off with a run or a walk and a big smile. But today was a particularly proud day for me as an LP&S athlete as we were able to support our local Parkrun and all the people involved. The hard work that LP&S people put in today was clear to everyone, and the prep work the pacers put in before hand to ensure they got it right on the day meant it was a job well done by all!

So if you haven’t yet joined us in the Parkrun community, or are a bit apprehensive just remember what Yosser Hughes would say, “I can do that”.

We had our 1st LPS Social run this evening. It was a great success with 9 people being able to join us. We have 18 people so far signed up as part of the group - the vast majority of whom are not presently club members.

This is really good news for us as it is helping show that we are inclusive and offer alternatives for people who may be less comfortable in running with “faster” groups and that we are supporting the wider community.

We’re planning on doing this every Wednesday at 6:45 and it’s open to all. We know that not everyone will make every week and no commitment is expected, we just want people to enjoy running and get involved in athletics and our club.

The eventual aim is to give people confidence to join LPS and give them the opportunity to take part in events as a team with people who they feel comfortable with.

Thanks to those already signed up. If you would like to come along or have friends and family that you think could be interested please share this link with them.

The more people that we can get involved with LPS, the more successful we are likely to be. For those who maybe don’t want to compete they may see other opportunities to support, such as becoming a technical official or coach.

Thanks everyone

Hi everyone - for the last 2 years in April we have supported Ormskirk Park Run with a "LPS take over".
We've been asked to support again on 27th April. It's a great opportunity for us to help out and support - particularly as we have had so many athletes join us after 1st doing park run.
I'm looking for as many volunteers as possible on the day. You don't need to be a runner, we need marshalls, scanners, tailwalkers as well as pacers.
Please support where you can. Please could you could indicate on the following form if you're available and what you could do.
If we get multiple offers then I'll speak to you individually to allocate.
