Group S&C Sessions! ๐Ÿ’ช

Hello Orkney! I've got a good spell home over December and January, so what better time to get involved in some training to up your strength, fitness, and feel great going into the New Year?

Classes will be a mixture of targeted whole body strength work, alongside a mixture of cardio, metcon and of course a good bit of crack!

Start working on 2026's good habits asap!

If you commit to the block you will receive 8 fully programmed and coached group sessions, access to my app to continue giving you programmung and support throughout January.

Whether you are looking to get into the gym, improve aspects of your overall fitness, or just looking for a challenge, you are welcome to get stuck in.

There are shower and changing facilities on site for those of you who need to go to work straight after, and coffees can be arranged ๐Ÿ˜‰

THATS NOT GOOD FOR YOUNG ATHLETES, IT OVERLOADS THEM!

As an S&C coach who works with younger athletes I do still hear objections like this.

Although many coaches are recognising the benefits in well planned and structured Strength & Conditioning for developing young athletes, there are still a few stick in the muds ๐Ÿ˜…

Does S&C overload athletes- yes. THATS THE POINT. A managed and recoverable overload stimulus results in adaptation. This helps the athlete cope with the demands of their sport ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Quite often the unmanageable overloads are the result of mismanaged training..... I'm sure a few of us can relate to at least a couple of these examples, I know I can ๐Ÿ˜‰

Meet Lisa!

Lisa's been grafting away at the gym in 1-1 PT sessions with me, and her results have been brilliant.

No forced progress pics, daft diets or crazy s**t. Just meeting her where she was at and building upon that.

For her, that looked like:

1- Starting actual strength training
2- Getting comfortable training independently in the gym outside of 1-1 sessions
3- Following a structured programme with goals and a direction
4- Learning to monitor and regulate training
5- Learning how to fit training into a busy life

None of it's complicated, and it takes a bit of work. Lisa has put the effort in and is making great progress across the board, as well as really enjoying training! ๐Ÿ’ช

Orkney Island Games- What a week!

Could not have been a better week, in terms of the event, weather and of course the results! Heartening to see how well Orkney did in the medal table! And of course I was delighted with the results of all the competitors I'm privileged to coach and help with S&C for ๐Ÿ˜

Lawn Bowls

Geordie and were on a roll! Geordie picked up Gold in the mens doubles, and 2nd place in the mixed doubles (which was unfortunately a non medal event). Greg rose to the occasion as well picking up gold in the mens triples! The Rendall lads really proved themselves on the green ๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿฅ‡

Track & Field ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

competed in Shot Put- and looked like she enjoyed every second of it! Some solid PBs and a 5th place overall finish

continued building upon an already strong season, with PBs, Orkney records, Island Games records and of course golds in the 4x100m and 4x400m ๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿฅ‡

Golf ๐ŸŒโ€โ™‚๏ธ
schinkel.92 was a part of the very successful mens golf team who picked up silver- a cracking result ๐Ÿฅˆ

These guys and girls have been working hard in the gym as well as in their sports and their efforts look to be paying off! Nothing fancy- just basic, effective S&C, that complements their sports training, and crucially fits and can be adapted to suit busy lives!

A huge well done to you all! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

Not even that gutted as it's probably reflective of how trainings been. Onwards and upwards

On the plus side, it's still a pleasure to lift in front of these 2 wee smiling faces ๐Ÿฅน

Good wee day at Western Districts on Saturday.

Ended on a 130 sn**ch and a 164kg clean & jerk (+2kg pb) for a 294 kg total (+3kg PB). Not my best day but far from my worst, still waiting for the day my sn**ches and clean and jerks go well at the same time!

Hello folks! I'll be home in sunny Orkney (hopefully) on the week of the 14th of April and have a number of coaching slots available. Be it 1-1 PT, group PT, getting started on a programme or 1-1 Weightlifting sessions I can help out ๐Ÿ˜„

Approach With Confidence & Act: It Matters!

When training, especially Weightlifting, how you approach individuals lifts and sets matters!

Really matters

Realistically most people only have the mental capacity to focus on one, maybe two immediate elements of performance.

Yet we have brains that, naturally, want to focus on far more than we can meaningfully manage! Perfectionism, anyone?

In my experience the longer you wait, the longer your brain has to focus on too much; that memories of past failures and creeping doubts have time to infiltrate your thoughts.

I've seen so many people fail a lift or set before they've even touched the barbell. You can see the doubt settle into their faces and body language!

Clear your mind: Focus on the one thing you need you need for quality, and focus hard on giving as much effort as you can!

Then approach, with gusto, with conviction and act before you can settle back in to your normal patterns of thought!

Even if you are tricking yourself into a false sense of confidence.

I honestly believe that the longer you wait the more likely you are to talk yourself out of something- especially when it's challenging

At least that's my experience and many of the athletes I've coached- I'd love to hear other peoples thoughts?
