A little update from us here at the club:
Cycling for the last week and a bit has been a great way to get out of the house in a safe way. It can clear the head from all the news circulating at the moment and it can give riders a great sense of freedom in these difficult times. However, as of Friday the option of getting more winter base miles in or chasing local Strava pbโs has become a non-option as we all must play our part and stay home. The 2km radius set out by the Taoiseach has limited us to training at home (if we can). For those with turbo trainers and Zwift the training can continue, but for those without unfortunately it must stop. This website can tell you if the 2km radius is enough to get out on the road even for a short loop https://2kmfromhome.com/.
If you do go out to train, please do it alone or with those from your own household and please respect the limits set. This can be a great time to spend stretching, working on core muscles and even practicing track stands. We do believe that exercise is vital these days to keep a positive mind and we encourage all our members to break a sweat in whatever way they can. A great video by GCN, done once a day could see the prevention of injuries and more flexibility and improvement in general on the bike https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VCM7xnL2QY
Our club activities have been stopped as the university remains closed for the foreseeable future. We will host our AGM in September when semester 1 kicks off again. For now, stay active but stay safe and we wish everyone, members or not, the best of luck and health over the coming period.
Regards,
David.
