Week 3 ticked off and all was going well till the wheels fell off today on my brick run 😬

First though let me just publicly pat myself on the back for showing up all week, getting 12hrs done, faffing about in the gym (allegedly "testing" my new fitness app BitFitter.me - so I really was working), extended my long run and made a fair fist of hitting the only three sessions that actually mattered - I know... "a God like inspirational athlete" does not even come close 😂😂

Oh before I forget, even more important that this weeks training update, I have decided I shall be "looksmaxxing" in order to get even more "pretty privilege"! Oh yes... That's got my name written all over it! 😍

Some people say that I should not be allowed to wander around the internet without a responsible adult supervising me...

Anyway... back to the wheels falling off. Bit of a school boy error really: much more accumulated fatigue, increased ambient temperature, more humidity... I did precisely f**k all about upping my fuelling or hydration game (the two thing of course being very different). I had planned to run 9k off the bike, got to 6k and decided... well lets just say I had had enough and certainly wasn't "maximising my look" 😫 More annoyingly of course is that I do actually know better...

For those of you familiar with periodised training (so that's everyone except the rep counting, dumbbell tossing, PT brigade 😉) next week is a de-load week. This is quite handy as it will be a little mini-warmth wave in the uk and I have a couple of being a grown up days... Including an Apple Developer Conference at the Barbican that I am looking forward to very much.

I would like to try and get one long bike and one long run done. Bin the BRICK session and maybe add in one fast short run and one hill rep bike escapade - most importantly reduce the total volume in preparation for the next four week block (build two).

Hope you are paying attention at the back - There will be questions you know!! 😘

Week one of my training plan ticked off and happy with 11hr 30min this week. Bit sketchy in terms of my scheduling, but fitted it all around other commitments and the weather :)

Thought I might have a go at another Duathlon or two. Especially as one is being held at "my lake", it almost seems rude not to go!

To be fair it's not actually a Duathlon in that it'a a Bike / Run but still... Now, the last time I did any middle distance races, I remember being surprised at how far they felt. Which I now is a whole new level of naivety even by normal standards!

This first event is 92k bike and 21k run, therefore my main priority is to increase the duration of most of my training sessions. You really can't be fiddling about with 60min training sessions and then expect to feel ok in a 5hr or 6hr event. It's just too long a day at the office ;)

So this week I ramped up the bike volume and put in a 3hr+ ride. Also added in my first BRICK session in ages!! 40k bike and 5k run off the bike. This is all about mindset ; practicing staying focuses hour after tedious hour ;)

Next weeks long run is going up to 14k and the brick session is 50k bike / 7k run. I really don't subscribe to this "short token run" off the bike. I get the theory, but just think you are wasting an opportunity to build your mindset 😘

Well, at least that is how I see it. Agree?

Happy developer moment : BitFitter v2 launches. 🥰

I built the original BitFitter at the start of COVID and it's fair to say that it wasn't quite the hit that Joe Wicks was... Mostly because it wasn't that great!!

It did get a a few people using it... But I think more out of kindness and sympathy 🙄

I have now rebuilt it from scratch and its live if anyone wants to find some workouts to follow. It's also free! Just hop over to http://bitfitter.me and set up your free account.

Now the less interesting part (for me) is actually generating workouts. There are only a couple at present 😬 but if people sign up then that will motivate me to write more!!

**If you are a Fitness Coach and would like a free Coaching Account to share your workouts, then it's free for you too!! Just message me and I'll set you up with a Coaching Login 💪**

Many people use fitness and health interchangeably. They are not the same thing, and have quite different meanings. You can be fit and unhealthy. Equally you can be healthy and unfit.

Fitness is your physical capacity or ability to perform specific athletic, occupational, or daily tasks efficiently.

Health is refers to your state of well-being, defined by the absence of disease and proper functioning of the body’s systems.

Personal training helps you improve your fitness.

The fitness industry celebrates aesthetics.

But here’s the reality. Training a 25 year old into better shape is not the same as rebuilding a 56 year old’s confidence, strength and health.

One needs programming. The other needs coaching.

A lot of the online fitness advice you see is less appropriate if you happen to be in your late forties or older.

Your recovery changes, metabolism changes. Whilst our physiology changes, most importantly our objectives also change.

Most young influencers and PT’s won’t have experienced this.

“Lift this. Eat that. Take progress photos and do the other. WhatsApp me if you got (sic) any questions!”

However, most midlife adults don’t need such instruction. They need a clear strategy to be communicated and individual (qualified) advice.

So why not work with someone who understands that? Experiences that everyday and likely understands you!
