Novice Cup

The inaugural Novice Cup took place on Sunday 16 August and was open to all members with under 5 years bowling experience. 16 players took part, drawn into pairs and played in 2 round robin groups, 6 ends per game.
After some closely fought matches, an exciting final was played with the eventual winners being Jenny Li and Howard Dean who beat Ken Wrighton and Ethel Morris. The day was the idea of coaches Claire Ridpath and Lee Thomas, who sponsored the event, and they were supported by the other club coaches and some senior members. The trophy was donated by Mick and Breda Richardson and awarded to the winners by Club President Derek Helson. It was a very enjoyable day, good weather, good food, good bowls and friendly rivalry.

The Olney Bowls Club Dinner Dance and Presentation Night was held on Saturday 15 November at the Carlton Club in Olney.

The enjoyable dinner was followed by our president Gerald Wilson presenting the various awards for winners and runners up of the 2025 club competitions (these were listed in an earlier post after finals weekend). Gerald, who retires as president after 9 years in post, was voted by the members as the Olney Bowling Club “Club Person of the Year” 2025 for his outstanding support to the Club and was presented with the trophy.

We all appreciated the live guitar music for us to listen and dance to during the evening, provided by Phil Short.

Well done to all those receiving trophies and thank you to Bob Constant for taking photos of the awards being presented and the other members involved in organising the evening and making it a sucess.
