Ardmedden Horses & Natural Horse Training

Ardmedden Horses & Natural Horse Training Horses at Ardmedden that are in work with a solid foundation. We sell other youngsters to trainers who want to produce themselves or we can bring them on.

The horses for sale at Ardmedden are mostly home bred with the view of producing a quality well balanced riding club active cob. The breeds we specialise in are R.I.D. and Haflinger with some of our horses having Welsh, Warmblood, Thoroughbred and heavy horse blood. We keep our horses in a very natural environment in large fields grazing with cattle/sheep. They are well acclimatised to life on the

farm and are used to heavy machinery. We only bring them into work when we are sure they are mentally mature enough to do so this can mean leaving them till they are 7 years old. We want to get a reputation for taking the time it takes to get horses right and pride ourselves in teaching them in a calm and kind way leading to a well balanced horse. We know their personalities, strengths and weaknesses and will advice clients appropriately. We have a small selection of our horses on this page that are well through their training but customers are more than welcome to choose some of our horses and we will train them on for the client at an additional cost.

This lad is looking for a new 🏡 He was professionally broken but always carries a bit of a worry. Been turned away to chillax and now is happy around people again. He has a misunderstanding of what is required from him. He needs a job & purpose. He is a lovely nature & I’m sure will be the most loyal companion to someone. Middle aged and priced to sell. Around 15 hh. Otherwise easy going and no problem around other horses mares or geldings. Just needs someone to love & tell him it’s all going to be ok. No dealers private home wanted. He needs time not rushed for a profit.

Morning, what a beautiful day hopefully that’s us finally making our way into the nicer weather🤞

A little update on what is going on at Ardmedden Horses. Some of you will have seen Anete around the yard where she has been busy getting quite a few of our horses and ponies into work over the last few months in the hope of getting out competing very soon. Our usual path is to send a few of our youngsters away for producing which we will also be doing very soon. It’s much easier for us using an outside yard who are used to and enjoy dealing with horse sale clients.

Anete and myself though will be keeping everyone updated on our horses schooling progress. Just now we have Fleur and Sandy starting their journey into the life of the working horse. Two year olds and a yearling also still in the barns. Next week we have our vet out to geld a couple of colts. So busy busy.

Around 6 of our stock this year will be making their way onto the market place directly from us as they have become slightly older than we’d like for starting. These will be perfect for anyone looking for an affordable project. They will be going down to Ardmedden 2 by 2 at a time! PM this page direct to discuss direct with Anete.

We also have some great cobs/ponies that are fantastic for hacking, family all rounders homebred that have been with us for a long time. No health issues but will require careful maintenance to prevent such. All can get a bit on the round side if not kept an eye on - need a mention any more! Looking for a knowledgable understanding 🏡 . May suit RDA but not keen on the riding school life for our precious peeps. Again Anete is your point of contact.

On a different note we are looking for a project jumping horse. This must ooze potential and be more than capable of jumping a large track. It doesn’t need to be doing that now but must be well on the way. Any little quirk within reason not a problem. Also if anyone is looking to have a very capable rider to produce and compete their jumping horse please get in touch. Any suitable horse would need to be liveried at Ardmedden due to time constraints. Really looking forward to getting out and about again.

So we will try to be much more active on this page showing you a little of what goes on and looking forward to a busy summer of horsey fun.

Photo dump following the last wee while and some of our golden oldies looking for someone who can offer them the best pampered lives.

I think this is so true with all competition horses. You need to hack and get horses moving forward with purpose. In my youth I rode for miles & miles. This isn’t possible anymore with the roads just being too dangerous. This is why we have the farm ride to allow riders to train well balanced responsive horses that love a jo@b. I think it’s impossible to create a well balanced horse without long canters whichever discipline you choose. When you book the farm ride you can go round as many times as you like.

Tomorrow we have a show at Ardmedden and I’ve been selected for car parking duties. I thought I’d be clear by afternoon but as entries increase it seems unlikely. So sadly will have to miss a week of our horse training. See you next week 😄

Meet Ardmedden’s Secret. She has a very special story to tell.

We will be discussing her story and many other reasons horses never cease to amaze us… every day is a school day. Anyone interested between 2pm & 4pm tomorrow at Ardmedden.

Who had all the pies? Enjoy ladies this is your last day in the winter grass. Slimming world commences tomorrow 😬

Horses have a totally different life here at Ardmedden. Large sheltered grass fields in the winter. Small dirt paddocks in the summer.

We will be at the portacabin 2pm to 4pm this Saturday again for anyone interested in better horsemanship for their horse.

We will have a “play” with a horse or two then discuss. Just because I’ve read a lot of discussion this week about the new FEI rules I wonder if we should discuss this in regard to training and why good horsemanship needs to be the way forward for our horses & the sport.

After our lovely session last week with Rhea an untouched homebred horse I wondered if we should follow on with what to do when your horse is not happy to open up & discuss his feelings. It’ll be interesting to see the attitude of a keen to interact youngster and an objectionable educated shut down horse. How to try get an element of play & curiosity back.

Rhea wanting us to hurry up with her hay delivery. It’s important at this stage whether she perceives us as her slave delivering food and water or the realisation she relies on us for the delivery so she best keep on our good side. Two very different concepts.

See you Saturday 😃 All welcome
