Oldmeldrum Golf Club

Oldmeldrum Golf Club Oldmeldrum is an historic golf club: the game has been played here for 125 years.

COURSE GUIDE
Golf has been played on Oldmeldrum’s undulating parkland for over 125 years. Located 18 miles north of Aberdeen on the A947 Banff road and 5 miles east of Inverurie the course affords panoramic views of Bennachie and the Donside countryside. The course originally consisted of 9 holes but was extended to its current 18 hole layout in the 1980’s. A par 70 course, measuring just over 6,0

00 yards, it presents a varied and challenging test of golf for all standards. The course affords a forgiving tee shot, but a more accurate approach is needed to make your way round on a score you will be proud of. Good putters will be rewarded as they hole out on what are often described as some of the best greens in the area. The club’s signature 14th dogleg hole takes its inspiration from the large stone, aptly named ‘The Groaner’. Using it as the club emblem, it is said to date back to the early 1300’s the time of the Battle of Barra. The Earl of Buchan defeated by the Army of King Robert the Bruce, is said to have been heard groaning behind this stone at the loss of his troops.

As in every sport there are tales of what might have been. Tonight’s fixture at Kintore GC can definitely be filed in that category.
With the team looking different from the two opening fixtures with Sim coming back into the starting lineup and Ryan Wallace making his first start of the season. The first set finished close at 3-2 with Brown filling the vacant number two slot and Ryan Wallace claiming his first of the night. Andy Sim was unlucky to pot the black but eventually see the cue ball also find the pocket to prevent the visitors from taking the lead.
The damage was done in the second round with Brown taking the only win for the visitors. It did look like Mosley was going to win his second game but the black agonisingly brushed the middle pocket jaw and stayed out.
In a closely fought team game the hosts claimed at least a point after it looked like the visitors had the frame won.
Justin Brown narrowly missed out on three straight wins after a strong start but was ultimately old manned by Gary Kelman. Wallace and Mosley added their games to the OGC total on a definite night of what might have been. Next week sees the Visit of Banks A.

Following on from last week’s debut in the Premier League OGC played host to Bridge Bar A. After another tough night it is fair to say the team were definitely more competitive in a number of games than the previous week. As per the previous week Mike Snowie levelled the scores in his opening game. He went on to double OGC’s tally by making it two out of two in the next round.
Andrew ‘The Postman’ Sim came into the fray in the last round and opened his account for the season to add to Snowie’s double.
A final score of 13-3 shows some improvement as the team feel their way into the new league. Next week the team head to Kintore to face the Golf Club on the baize.
