Left the Lake District one day too early to enjoy being upon snow covered mountains.

There was a cold icy wind blowing on Hellvellyn yesterday and the ground was frozen, but there was only a dusting of snow. I'm sure today will be different.

That's a few more Wainright's ticked off for my son.

Hopefully, the gentleman who we came across who was lost without a map, got home without any further issues, after we got him off the hill and pointed him in the right direction.

The High Court today upheld the appeal against last year's ruling to remove the legal right to wild camp upon Dartmoor.

Hopefully this will signal a change to allow responsible wild camping in all National Parks and other suitable countryside areas in England and Wales.

The tireless efforts of those such as .2roam and countless ordinary, countryside-loving, members of the public have brought about this change.

Last night was the final event in the 2022/23 Winter Night Orienteering Series.

The competitors toughed it out over what was probably the most challenging course of the series, to add vital points to their final tallies.

Whilst we'll be having a break from the winter series until the dark nights return, we've still got some fun events lined up throughout the summer including The Dark Peak 60 and the Milltowns & Moors Mini 'O'.

The 4th event in the Winter Urban Night Orienteeting Series was held from The Rising Sun, Mossley.

Once again, with a total of 350 points up for grabs, both runners and cyclists spent 2 hours in search of up to 15 checkpoints over yet another tough course.

The usual post-event analysis was conducted in the pub, over a pint and tasty home-made pizza.

The final event in the series will be held in Marsden. Date and venue TBC.

Participants ready for the off, at last night's Winter Night Series Orienteering Event.

Whilst snow and ice on parts of the course made for some challenging conditions under foot and wheel, everyone returned with a good haul of points to add to their series score.

There's only a couple of days to go before the first Winter Night Series event of 2023. This month's course will be a test of how much festive over-indulgence everyone has partaken in since December's event.

After it seems like we've had non-stop rain for several weeks-on-end, the current Met Office weather forecast for Wednesday evening (18/01/2023) is for it to be dry, but with low temperatures.

Our hosts for this month - the White Lion in Delph - are all set to warm everyone up with chip butties, and quench their hard-earned thirsts with a range of fine ales, after an evening of exciting urban orienteering.

Date: Wednesday 18th January 2023
Location: The White Lion, Delph
Time: 6:30pm (Registration) 7pm (Start)
Duration: 2 hours

As always, please ensure that you have a compass, a fully working torch, mobile phone and wear Hi-viz clothing. In addition, carry suitable warm and waterproof clothing. Cyclists must also wear helmets and have fixed front and rear lights on bikes.
