When the coach shouted “Faster!”, Yuhas didn’t wait for a second invitation. In a pressure penalty situation, he took a quick tap-and-go, sold the fake pass perfectly, then glided through with brilliant side steps that opened up space and angles to score. The defenders were left as mere spectators. What a sleek and beautiful move! 🔥🏉

This year sees a tie for Best Player — a fitting result for two outstanding performers. Familiar names to those who followed last year’s tournament, the joint winners are MJ from Stockport and Yuhas from Oldham.

MJ, last year’s Top Try Scorer, once again showcased his class, while Yuhas continues his exceptional form by claiming the Best Player title back-to-back, following his 2025 win with another in 2026.

A fantastic achievement for both players — truly well deserved.

Top Try Scorer – Raphael Yeboa (Rapha) of Longton Rugby Club Juniors U13s.

An electrifying talent, Raphael’s pace is simply outstanding — once he breaks through, he’s almost impossible to catch. A true live wire on the field, constantly creating danger and lighting up the game with every run.

What a fantastic way to bring the 2025/2026 season to a close. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere around the club and grounds was electric, and most importantly, the lads enjoyed a brilliant day of rugby. There were smiles, a few tears, and plenty of blood and sweat along the way—but above all, rugby was the true winner.

We were especially honoured to have Steve Tyrrell with us to present the medals and special awards. Steve has been instrumental in building strong foundations for the Oldham Juniors section, and it was only fitting that the shield, named in his honour, recognises his dedication, hard work, and the sacrifices he made to support and grow the club.

It was a truly memorable day, and we hope everyone who attended enjoyed it as much as we did. We look forward to welcoming you all back again next year.

Back-to-back champions and still unbeaten — a remarkable achievement for Oldham RUFC U13s, who delivered their strongest performances right at the end of the season.

From the first whistle, Oldham were dominant. Their defensive effort set the tone throughout the tournament, not conceding a single try until the final — and even then, only allowing two against Longton. It was a true display of discipline, organisation, and resilience.

In attack, the team were just as impressive. Scrum-half Yuhas led the charge brilliantly, scoring four out of his five tournament tries in the semi-finals and final. The forwards consistently made strong, confident carries, creating the platform for the backs to shine. Fletcher stood out with powerful drives and two well-earned tries — and could easily have had four on another day. Billy was solid in defence, putting in key tackles and adding two tries of his own. Destin brought pace and intensity, crossing the line twice, while George excelled in the crucial No.8 role, finishing a superb try.

Ethan, Jimmy, Ollie, and Cooper all contributed on the scoreboard, highlighting the team’s all-round attacking strength. A special mention goes to Cooper for his outstanding defensive performance at full-back in the semi-final against Stockport, where he calmly dealt with repeated deep kicks, securing possession under pressure without conceding penalties — a mature and composed display.

Junior and Michael were instrumental in gaining ground and maintaining momentum, presenting clean ball at the rucks and keeping the team moving forward.

Overall, this was a complete team performance — dominant, disciplined, and exciting to watch right through to the final whistle. To finish the season as unbeaten, back-to-back champions is no small feat.

Job well done, Oldham U13s — a season to remember.

Grand Finale – Steve Tyrrell Challenge Shield

It was a fitting end to the season as unbeaten sides Oldham and Longton faced off in a highly anticipated Grand Finale. Both teams had delivered convincing performances throughout the tournament, showcasing dominance and determination to reach this stage. Now, it all came down to the battle for the prestigious Steve Tyrrell Challenge Shield.

Oldham started the game with real intent, moving the ball confidently and maintaining strong structure. The forwards led from the front, taking the physical hits and driving play forward, while the backs supported well and defended as a disciplined unit.

Longton, boasting the tournament’s top try scorer, found it difficult to break through in the first half. Oldham’s defence was exceptional—every time Longton threatened, they were shut down. Even when their key runner managed to beat a couple of players, Oldham’s scrum-half ensured he went no further.

Jimmy and Fletcher set the tone early for Oldham, combining well in attack. Fletcher Wood produced a moment of brilliance, breaking through several Longton defenders to score the opening try of the match. Soon after, from a scrum, Yuhas spotted a gap and needed no second invitation—his quick footwork and pace left the defence behind as he crossed for Oldham’s second try.

As the game progressed, Longton began to find their rhythm. Oldham’s discipline slipped slightly, conceding penalties through a couple of no-arm tackles. Longton capitalised on this and managed to score their first try, bringing themselves back into the contest.

With the coaches urging control, Oldham responded. Yuhas once again took charge, linking play effectively. After a strong drive from Destin, Yuhas picked up from a broken play and powered over for his second try of the final, extending the lead to 15–5.

Oldham continued to apply pressure from all areas of the field. A flowing move involving Yuhas, Fletcher, Destin, Billy, and Devon nearly resulted in another score, only for Longton to regain possession near the touchline.

Relentless pressure paid off again when Yuhas broke through on the right, beating multiple defenders before being tackled just short of the line. Demonstrating great support play, captain George Grant picked up from the ruck to score Oldham’s fourth try, pushing the score to 20–5.

With just two minutes remaining, Longton managed a consolation try before the referee blew the final whistle.

Final Score: Oldham 20 – 10 Longton

Oldham are crowned back-to-back winners of the Steve Tyrrell Challenge Shield.

It was a complete team performance, with every player contributing to a true championship display. Longton showed great spirit, especially in the latter stages, but it wasn’t enough to stop a determined Oldham side.

Individual brilliance has shone throughout the tournament—attention now turns to the awards ceremony to recognise those standout performances.

Well done, Oldham boys—you’ve earned this moment. Celebrate it. 🎉
