Oldham Way Ultra 2022

We are receiving an increasing amount of people asking what is going on with the OWU this year (2022)

The team have been waiting and chasing for the past few months both the venue for confirmation regarding this year's date and a parish council (who last time we managed to chat with them were not supporting the event due to Covid fear and threatening an outright boycott of the event!)

Sadly at this moment we still have nothing new to report to you, sorry.

The best decision right now especially with how close the date has become is to say that we won't be going ahead this year and put all our efforts into making firm arrangements for next year.

We will put out a new date as soon as we have it.

We are aware that some people have places that are rolled over still from the past years, these places were taken by Team OA when the event was owned by Team OA, please be aware that Team OA Ltd no longer exists. RunAble now owns the event and all places have been rolled over to them (with none of the funds!) this way when the event does go ahead you won't lose your places.

And yes Wane was the managing director of them both, the only other option was to liquidate Team OA and like other event organisers, simply walk away.

Please be aware that as a running events business we have like many others been hit hard this past almost 2 years, with zero income we still outlay for rent and many other continuing costs etc. It is a bit off, when we receive some of the nasty emails we have, and even more the personal messages that have been sent. Your situation is no worse than ours, we too have families and bills to pay. We are doing all we can to carry forward events for us all, for the future and ours, please allow us your support and patience while we get there, it will be worth the wait!

To recap;
No event this year
All previous entries automatically rolled over
The event date will be confirmed asap

Hope you all have an amazing year of both running and training and looking forward to seeing you for the return of the Oldham Way Ultra in 2023

Any questions please drop an email to [email protected] stick OWU in the total field and we will reply asap!

Thank you for reading to the end.

Today we have had to make the very difficult decision to cancel this year's Oldham Way Ultra on 18th April. An email has been sent out to all participants.

Lets all look forward to 2022

COVID Update

Hopefully it will be good news soon, we are still on for the 17th April, and looking forward to seeing your smiling faces as you head out... then maybe one or two will return with tales of adventure...

One of the many issues for us is the event centre, understandably at present we can’t have confirmation regarding weekend hire for the Castleshaw Centre this could mean last minute search for an alternative! (worst case we run the event from a car park!)

Our main concern is that we are unable to proceed with the OWU due to the ongoing lockdown and event restrictions within the area that could still remain in place... remember resstrictions not only affect you the participants but they impact on our ability to staff the event safely.

Question;

A virtual event?
Share your thoughts with us, we would love to have your input on this and how you would like to see it happen, the format etc!?

(A virtual event for us is an absolute very last resort, I would rather run the event from the boot of my car, personally handing out jelly babies and salted potatoes than see that happen!)

For now, nothing more to report but as soon as we do have something we will let you know.

Until then, get out there, get wet, get muddy and have some fun...

Wane
See you all on April 17th...

2021 Oldham Way Ultra.

Due to the rescheduling and carrying names over from 2020 to 2021 the remaining places are limited.

You can still enter and choose to pay in full or spread the entry over up to 8 payments that's less than £7!

Don't miss out on 'the return of the OWU'

Wane is hopeful he will be able to negotiate more places but until event HQ and relevant authorities are back open, can't make any progress on that.

We are aware that for many entering a race almost 12 month away isn't on the radar just yet, especially with the financial uncertainty many are facing.

With this in mind, Wane has had the 2021 entry for the OWU set up so that you can spread the entry over 1 to 8 payments.

This means you can secure one of the few remaining places now and choose to pay over anything from 1 to 8 months from as little as £7.39 per month.

Less than 60 places remaining.

All 2020 events from April 1st through to August 31st will be moved to 2021 dates as follows, please see attached image.

Your Entry
All entries already registered and paid up to May 7th 2020, will automatically move forward to the 2021 date above, if the 2021 date is not suitable we will move your entry over to the 2022 date for you. This can only be done in the month leading up to the event so please do not send us emails requesting this now as we will not be able to process them. We are hopeful that we will not have to add any events later in the year to the list.
If you have already entered and paid your entry fee you do not need to do anything further. There will be no name changes or additional transfers for any of these places, they are yours for either 2020 or 2021.

Refunds
We wanted to inform you ourselves!
As many of you are aware there have been a few event companies go into liquidation over the past 5 to 6 weeks, leaving many people out of pocket with no option of a future event or anything. We fear many more companies will be joining them, we have lost a t-shirt supplier and at this moment we are uncertain as to where we will be able to acquire medals or other mementoes as many of those suppliers have disappeared as well.
We know at the beginning of this current situation we had mentioned that we would offer a 60% refund to those who genuinely could not make an adjusted date for an event, sadly, after looking into the situation we are now presented with, financially we just can not offer to do this without ending the rest of the events and the business.

Other Events.
The smaller events such as Urban Night Series, 4 Seasons 10k etc will all go ahead on revised dates as soon as we have the go-ahead from the government. We are working on a few new events that will join in as midweek races and will let you have more info on these, but again won’t be able to release dates just yet!

Organic Adventure
It is not all doom and gloom and as we have always done we are evolving and growing, we have a couple of new team members joining us they are already working on the new events and will be taking over the race directing at many of the other events too (Wane knows some of you just cheered!) will tell you more about them in the next few weeks or as soon as they dare send a photo in for a little bio.
We know this is possibly not the news any of us want to hear at the moment, but we feel this is the best way to keep the events going for us all.

Wane

15/03/2020

Good afternoon all,

We have been through every possible scenario that we can think of over the past few days for the next few months of events with regards to the situation presented to us by the COVID-19/ Coronavirus.

We are very sad to announce today that:

The Oldham Way Ultra April 17-19th is to be postponed, at present we can not offer a new date as this event is run from an education establishment they too could not give us an idea just yet.

Any entries will be carried forward to the new dates as soon as we have them for 2020, if you have already entered you don’t need to do anything further. If when we announce the new date you cannot make it, or would prefer not to run the event on the new date, you are able to cancel your entry then for a 60% refund.

You can also move your entry over to the White Rose Ultra, 30, 60-mile etc, on November 6, 7 8th

Like many other race organisations, we have tried to wait as long as possible in the hope that the situation would not develop as far as it has. At this present time yours and our safety during the above events is paramount, from a staffing, volunteer, medical team or runner perspective.

- [ ] We require a minimum number volunteers at each event, we can not guarantee this.
- [ ] We face the possibility of staff shortages due to infection and or self isolation, we are aware that many would have to drop in the last hours.
- [ ] Whilst the government has not stated that we have to postpone, for your and our safety this is the best option
- [ ] At this moment technically we could put on some of these events, but we can not guarantee that we will be able to at the time
- [ ] We are able to at this moment to source medical support for the events but again as these provisions become more strained, our events become a low priority and potentially they will be able to provide zero medical cover.
- [ ] We want to provide all our participants the best financial outcome we can, whilst still having the ability to continue events in the future.

Like other events organisers we are feeling quite frankly devastated at this moment in time, and have not taken any of these decisions lightly, we are more than aware of the potential issues and damage that this may cause for us and our events but we hope that you will rally around and support, not just us but all other events out there.

We would like to treat everyone the same way, we hopefully have a clear policy in place now that we can all work with.

If you have any questions please contact us via either message here or email to [email protected] the email etc is rather busy at the moment but we will get back to each and every email we receive, just give us time!

Do you know this years OWU is fully marked, navigation is no longer an excuse! (You said it, we listened)
