Dovestone Sailing Club hosted their annual open day on Saturday 7th May, under the banner of Discover Sailing, a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) initiative. More than 60 people of all ages took to the water in a perfect day for a trial sail. The sun was out and the breeze gave visitors a great experience on the water. The club had 4 boats out helmed by very experienced sailors. Each boat could accommodate up to 3 guests. Visitors enjoyed around 30 minutes tacking backwards and forwards across the reservoir, learning the basics of dinghy sailing. One family included three generations, Mary Dunkerley had been a club member during the club's first year, 1967, when the reservoir was filled for the first time. She hadn't been sailing for over 50 years and loved sharing the experience with her son Chris Dunkerley and Grandson, Hugo Dunkerley. Dovestone Sailing Club always welcomes new members, check their website for details - dovestonesc.org.uk

Great news for the 2021 Sailing Season.

With the announcement of the "Road Map" we can now start to plan towards the resumption of the normal use of the Club facilities and get back to sailing which is great news for members. The "Back to Sailing Team" (aka Covid Committee) are awaiting new guidance from the RYA identifying how this relates to sailing clubs such as ours, which is anticipated towards the end of this week. Once this guidance has been received we will produce our own "Navigation Route" which we will circulate as soon as possible and hopefully next week. With a fair wind there is positive hope that after an initial phased start we will benefit from an almost full season of activities.
