Why biomechanics matters more than you think.

Players are more commonly getting ACL, MCL and other injuries that can cost them a good portion of the season. But what if I told you that there is a way to reduce this risk.

In female sports, most girls don't access the gym until they are 14 and boys maybe at 12 years old, so could this be the reason?

In short, weight training starts when you are a baby and then you progressively pick up larger loads; Toys, food and even thinks you shouldn't. So the myth that you shouldn't weight train until you are 16 is pretty much non exhistant.

Since qualifying as a biomechanics coach, I have gained a reputation for enhancing movement quality and improving speed by a minimum of 0.3 seconds in session 1.

How?

Whether I am operating in a group setting or in a 1 to 1, I pay particular attention to how an athletes moves and what happens throughout the movement identifying certain patterns.

This enables me to identify muscular imbalances, the reason athletes aren't explosive and also why they are unable to produce / absorb force effectively in jumping and landing.

While going on a course is great, it doesn't teach you everything and neither does the latest scientific paper on speed development. What it does give you are the foundations that you can build your own learnings and development from.

Every persons biomechanical make up is different, based on age, experience, training load amongst other factors.

By paying added attention to detail, I have been able to excel my clients athletic development long term by making small changes to their movement and getting big rewards.

If this relates to you then please feel free to reach out and lets see how I can help enhance your movement quality and get you to the next levels in your performance.

If you don't have this in your programme, then you are missing out.

The pendlay row is a great exercise to develop explosive upper body movement and a must for rugby players.

Why do I use strongman training with my athletes?

Most athletes follow the same patterns, but strongman training exposes my athletes to different challenges focusing on;

✅️ Strength
✅️ Power
✅️ Resilience under fatigue
✅️ Work capacity

When the going gets tough on game day, its those who display these qualities that stand out and why my athletes are built better and are more robust.

As a strongman and former footballer and an active scout myself, I have seen first hand how these training methods can transfer into different sports.

Different training style which allows athletes to adapt better to unexpected situations.

One conversation that I seem to have more and more with players and parents at the minute is that;

"There aren't any clubs playing at the level that I want to play at"

or

"The clubs that I want to join don't have space"

I feel the frustrations and I get it. It is a similar story in academy football.

The problem is, that development doesn't stop just because the opportunities aren't available at this time.

I see players that want to push forward and ready for the next challenge but they are just stuck.

Too many talented players are stuck between grassroots football and the next step. They're ready to push on but don't have the environment, guidance or pathway to help them get there.

That's exactly why I'm launching the Chris Honor Performance Centre of Excellence.

After 25+ years in football as a manager, director of football, scout, recruiter and strength & conditioning coach, I've built a unique understanding of what clubs are actually looking for.

This isn't an overcrowded academy where players become numbers.

Sessions will be capped to ensure every player receives individual support, honest feedback, structured coaching and real development opportunities.

My goal is simple:

Develop players.
Create opportunities.
Help them progress.

Fast players can become quicker.
Technical players can become more dominant.
Talented teams can become harder to break down.

But only if you identify what’s really limiting performance.

Here are some observations that I have seen from a biomechanics and high performance coach when attending academy games this season.
