Twice Scottish championship lightweight championship runner-up. Supported by Shirlaws Motorcycles and Two Wheel Developments. Rider: Keith Dickie
Keith started racing with Hottrax in 2009, cutting his teeth in the Junior 600 Endurance championship, first on a Honda CBR600RR then a Yamaha R6. Keith raced with Hottrax again in 2010 before taking a couple of years off. He made a return to racing in
2013, this time in closer to home in the Scottish Championship. A change of machinery saw him campaign a Minitwin spec Suzuki SV650 in the Scottish Lightweight Championship, racing at both Knockhill and East Fortune. This switch to a less powerful machine enabled Keith to focus on developing racecraft which would stand him in good stead as results showed improvement all season, culminating in 3rd place overall in the Knockhill Lightweight Championship. From 2014 to 2016 Keith raced a Kawasaki ER6 which, although tuned to Supertwin specification, was still eligible for the Scottish Lightweight Championship. It was at this time that a relationship with local Kawasaki dealership Shirlaws Motorcycles was forged and they support Keith to this day despite the fact he has now defected to Yamaha!
2014 to 2016 saw regular podiums at Knockhill, a runner-up spot in the Scottish Lightweight championship as well as the 2014 Melville Motor Club lightweight championship win. The Kawasaki proved itself to be very competitive and there were many great races and fast laps, not to mention fantastic camaraderie with the rest of the Scottish Championship riders. After a sabbatical in 2017 and 2018, Keith returned to racing for a one-off round at Knockhill in September 2019, on a newer and higher spec ER6 Supertwin. Results were good enough for Keith to make a plan for 2020 which involved a move back to race south of the border again, this time with No Limits. Although he only competed in 2 rounds with No Limits in 2020, results were good enough to secure runner-up in their Supertwin championship. Keith also completed a round of racing with the North Gloucester club on a 2001 Yamaha R6. This heralded a change of direction and the Kawasaki was sold at the beginning of 2021. For season 2021 Keith decided to enter the Thundersport Golden Era Supersport championship. One of the main attractions of racing in this class is that there's a veterans' championship for riders over 40 years of age. Although Keith had no expectations for what is an incredibly competitive championship, he went into the championship holding nothing back. The bike was perfectly prepared by Lewis Shand at Two Wheel Developments and the Yamaha R6 proved itself to be very competitive. A very solid season saw Keith finish a creditable 6th in the overall championship and, incredibly, win the Veteran's championship. For 2022 Keith will return to defend that championship. The first round is at Brands Hatch in March but, for now, there's work to be done to get the bike and rider ready. We thank you in advance for your support as we try to emulate, or even improve, on 2021.
