The Okey squash team managed to secure the win against Exeter uni 2 to win promotion to Div 2 next season. Well done to all those that contributed - Chris J, Shane V, Leon F, Paul C, Yan W, Eddie A, Phil A and Jon P - a great squad effort!! The standard of squash will be higher next season so the club are always interested in hearing from good level squash players who are interested in playing some team squash. Do get in touch with us if interested - even if you don't want to commit each week. With one match of the season left, the Okey squash team are in with a fighting chance for promotion to Div 2 after two recent comprehensive wins. Going into the last two matches with a win record of 3-2 in previous rounds, they recently beat both Exeter Uni 3 and Kingsbridge 3 16-0 - winning all four strings in each match. Against Exeter Uni 3 the match was marked by Eddie A's debut for the team - showing the way with a great 3-0 win. Well done Eddie!! This was backed up by wins for Paul C, Shane V and Chris. This week against Kingsbridge - who only travelled with 3 players - there were comfortable wins for Shane V, Phil A and Chris J. Final match of the season next week against Exeter Uni 2 - fingers crossed!!

The Okey squash team enjoyed a good win at home to Paignton this week, with both sides playing some high quality squash. At string 4 Paul C couldn't quite get his game going - going down 1-3. At string 3 the returning Chris E battled hard against his opponent and some injury niggles to win a tight match 3-1. At string 2 Chris J and his opponent both played some excellent squash, with Chris' mobility giving him the edge in all three tight games (3-0). At string 1 Steve M again demonstrated that squash is actually a simple game, keeping control of his match to also win 3-0. An excellent 14-4 win in points which helps with their league position.

The Okey team put up a battling performance against league leaders Exeter Uni - winning some valuable points. This latest match showed real progression in the squash games for Yan, Paul and Leon - all playing against strong opponents. At string 4 Yan battled hard, with a couple of close calls going against him - losing 0-3 but all games tight. Paul at string 3 won a good tussle 3-2, and at string 2 Leon played some great squash against a skilled opponent, going down 1-3. All matches demonstrated real progress. At string 1, Steve M standing in for Okey won 3-0. A 12-7 loss (4 points for an overall win) which was a good performance. Here's a video of Steve M's winning point!!

The Okey team enjoyed a crucial away win against Dartington this week. At string 4 Yan had a ding-dong battle but came out with a 3-2 win. At string 3 Leon continued his stellar form with another 3-o win - Leon is flying at the moment!! This couldn't be replicated by Shane at string 2 - who needs to improve his form - losing 1-3. However, at string 1 Chris J brought the vistory home against his skilled opponent - winning 3-2. 3 wins to one loss. Next week a much tougher test against league front runners Exeter Uni.

The Oke squash team are back in action for the new season - this time in Div 3 of the Devon & Exeter squash league. A couple of players' unavailability has meant a slightly weakened team at the start of the season - suffering a couple of opening defeats this week. On Monday, late travel disruption meant they were only able to travel to Paignton with three players - having to forfeit the string 4 match. Paul C played some good squash - highlighting his improved game - but came out with an eventual 2-3 loss. At string 2 Shane V was not strong enough for his experienced opponent - losing 0-3. At string 1 Chris J started the season strongly, playing some great squash against his tricky opponent to win 1-3.

In the second match of the week on Thursday, there was a similar outcome at home against Newton Abbot - a great 3-0 win for Leon F wasn't enough to offset losses for Yan (1-3), Shane (0-3) or Chris J (2-3) - the latter the result of a monumental battle.
