Even polo clubs can do their part for the environment 💡

Great initiative by Polo Club de Saint Cannat, offering polo discounts to people who use a more eco-friendly option to travel to their club! 👏🏼🙌🏼🛤

Hello friends and followers,

As most of you know, we like to do our bit for the environment. The polo and hay fields have been chemical free zones since the 70’s and our fertilizers are made from French algae. This year we’ve added composting loos to the clubhouse and in 2020 it will be powered 100% by solar energy!

We have been trying to think of ways to continue to reduce our carbon footprint and we’d appreciate your feedback on an idea we’re hoping to put into action in 2020.

Most of you travel to us from abroad. 98% of you probably fly. It’s cheap and convenient but the carbon emissions are nearly 10x more than when travelling by train.

We’d like to encourage more of you to use the wonderful European rail network, so we are prepared to offer discounts on polo holidays to those who travel to us by train instead of flying!

It’s surprising how cheap the train can be when booked in advance. Not forgetting, no baggage limits, no problem to bring your mallets, helmet, knee pads… and it only takes 6 hours from London!

Please tell us what you think about this idea? Would it make you consider taking the train instead?

Conditions will apply and for those joining us from outside of Europe, a train instead of a connecting flight still counts 😉

Look forward to hearing your feedback!!

It’s quite common for polo players to leap from one horse to another in between, or even during chukkers to save time dismounting and mounting from the ground.⁣

Grant Collett is showing us how to do it with his signature Offchurch Bury Polo Club blue colours for the horses’ numnahs and bandages 🐎 ⁣

𝐄𝐗𝐇𝐈𝐁𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐒⁣

Last, but certainly not least to wrap up the last of the Player Profiles is the prodigy himself, Ara Shikhalislami. He is often referred to as “Aladdin” - believe it or not, that’s actually his middle name 🤔⁣

Ara is a popular face amongst the University Polo community, where he joined Warwick Polo Club with no prior riding experience, but went on to be President of Warwick Polo and also played on the SUPA England team with teammate, Sam Boreham. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🐎⁣

Although Ara is a -1, he plays more like a 7. Ara also runs the Alumni Polo Network page and this post you are reading was written by him. That’s right... it’s me typing this...⁣

Ara and Sam have shed blood, sweat and tears to make this event one to remember, so make sure you attend on Saturday to watch their hard work pay off. 🙏🏼⁣
