Fasnacloich 50DTL Results: Saturday 12 SEP, 2026.

A feisty day on the west coast of Scotland which delivered testing targets, but the participants knuckled down with some excellent shooting, returning 3 x 25 straights on the day (with the HG taking 2 for himself, making the only 50 straight of the day).

The wind blew, and the rain pelted, but the craic was good and, with plenty of pepper in John’s soup, there was little to complain about.

Thankyou for stepping across your thresholds, when the forecast was a little poor, and making a day of it.

Fasnacloich’s next open shoot will be in December, which will include Gun Down Silent Rise, 5 Pair and some DTL. Expect the soup to have even more pepper as the days will be a little cooler by then 🥶.

Thankyou once again and we look forward to seeing you around the bazaars.

High Gun - Craig McFadyen 50/142
2nd - Dennis Davitt 47/141
3rd - Mark Lawrie 48/139
4th - Fred Lockwood 47/138

Saturday 5th September 2026: 50 bird DTL results.

13 guns turned up for today’s 50 bird shoot, and initially it was a little damp, but the clouds soon cleared, the sun came out, and we should’ve worn shorts; it was roasting! 🌞. The heavy rains and high winds had passed during the night, leaving us with excellent conditions.

Thankyou to everyone for coming to support the shoot, with the old stalwarts being as reliable as ever, plus some new blood coming along for a shot. Thankyou too, to McFadyen’s Caterers for the excellent scran, helping to boost morale for those that didn’t fare as well as hoped!

Also, with regards to the kerfuffle about allowing ‘assistance’ animals into certain areas, we would like it to be known, that the LGC committee permitted Mr Makin to bring his guide dog/ lucky charm onto the shooting ground in order to give him advice and help him see the pigeons better (which obviously paid off)! Well done Lexi.

In addition, as we haven’t been having Thursday Night practices, we had a 25 bird Re-Entry (which we will continue to have after the prize-giving of each shoot, (if there is the appetite)) with the winner of today’s re-entry being Duncan MacColl, who picked up a fine bottle of Jura Malt for his efforts.

Thankyou all once again, and next month’s shoot with be for one of our oldest honours, The Oban Times Cup; hopefully we will see you there.

High Gun - John Makin (assisted by Lexi) 48/143
Runner Up - Duncan MacColl 47/141
Second Runner Up - Davy Milton 47/136

Re-Entry - Duncan MacColl 25/73

Fasnacloich Gun Club results: Saturday 15 AUG 2026, 50 DTL.

A smaller turnout today than hoped, but there was still some excellent shooting, plus (as every cloud has a silver lining) it meant that there was lots of soup and pies to go around the reduced numbers. A little damp at times but still good craic.

High Gun - Andy Hetherington 50/148
Runner Up - Hector McFadyen 🎼 48/144
Runner Runner Up - John Jackson 48/140

Lucky Dip - Laphroaig - (6th) - Fraser Blair

Thankyou for coming to support and we look forward to getting together again some time soon.

Back In The Day.
Here is a previous (original?) Lorn Gun Club Team Shoot Cup, where winners were Crianlarich Team (1947) and Stirling No1 Team (1948).
I wonder where the shooting ground was then as we only started at The Barn (Lerags) in the 70’s before moving out to the Moss?

Saturday 08 AUG, 2026, results. Stuart Davis Memorial Trophy/ Team Shoot.

A broad spectrum of competitors came to remember one of the original ‘Founding Fathers’ of Lorn Gun Club, the stalwart that was Stuart (Secretary for many years) and they did it in the same fashion that he used to; by altering the stock between 25s, and giving advice to those on the pegs (during shooting)!
We miss you Stuart.

The day turned out to be pretty decent and bright, with the smirr building from lunchtime onwards, and the breeze coming over the hill, causing the pigeons to dance a little, varying the heights between ‘springing teal’ and ‘bolting rabbit’.

Team Shoot.
Winners - Shankland’s Stars: 671/ 750. Led by an effervescent Team Captain (with a 50 straight), they held their nerves and fought strongly to pick up the Memorial Trophy and bottles of Jura, Cask Edition.

(With our sensible heads on, no whisky was decanted into the cup to be passed around (unlike the ‘good old days’)! 😢).

Runners up - Fasnacloich 633/750.

Tail End Charlie’s - Hector’s Heroes 589/750.

Individuals:
High Gun - Andy Hetherington 50/149
Runner Up - Gordon Shankland 50/146
3rd - Craig MacFadyen 49/142.

Thankyou for travelling distances (having to deal with the holiday traffic) to join in with the camaraderie, support of the club, and troughing all of the pies, soup and home baking. We hope you all had an enjoyable day.

See you all again next month.

Runner Up - Andy Hetherington (49/145)

3rd equal - Duncan MacColl & Calum Gatting (137)

Thankyou all for coming along to support the club and we look forward to seeing you next month.

Saturday 11th July 2026: results.

A warm, dry, calm day delivered steady, luminescent targets, plus the opportunity to sit out and have a blether with old cronies, whilst enjoying some of the local produce.

The ground was in above-standard condition, even competing with Bywell as one of the better prepared in the UK, with ground staff, members and instructors all offering their tuppence worth on how to smoke the pigeons.

High Gun - Andy Hetherington - 49/147
Runner Up - James Fairlie - 49/143
Runner Runner Up - Duncan MacColl - 48/141

The 25 bird re-entry was also won by Mr Hetherington with a 25/74. (Andy, your prize of Chateau Mouton Rothschild (1945 Vintage) is waiting for you in the ‘wine cellar’ (a plastic bag under the sink).

Thankyou all for coming along and helping to make the day a success, and thankyou also for all of the positive feedback wrt how the new Lorn Gun Club has managed to present itself: with your support, we will continue to grow.

I didn’t get results from the Sporting Layout, but I believe that a number of boxes-of-cartridges were given out by Tam. Well done there also.

Finally, for those that received a ‘Free Entry Token’ for assisting with the final clear up, and grab-net folding, please present them at the next shoot for your free entry.

Thankyou all once again.
