What a day we had!
Thank you everyone who came to chat to us at the Moidart Produce Show yesterday, and to the Show committee for all their support 👍🏻
We were bowled over by the interest in our little club and what we're trying to do.

Huge thanks to Chris & John from Lochaber Coastal Rowing for bringing their Club's skiff, Each Dubh, so we could show folks what a finished skiff looks like - she is a beauty.

We are still midway through the build of our own skiff, Speireag, but will reconvene build sessions during Sept. Join up as a member on our website to get involved www.moidartcoastalrowing.org/membership/

Lastly, thanks to the Moidart Skiffie members who helped out on the stand... The midge repellent came in handy!

Looking forward to meeting folk again at the Moidart Produce Show this Saturday 29th Aug.
We'll have a few people there from the club to chat about building our own wooden rowing skiff and what the club is all about (...and fingers crossed we'll have a nice surprise🚣🏼‍♀️ for you to come see!)

Eilish Maclellan and Lou Johnson from the Moidart Skiffies got suitably salty and had a blast at the Coxing course practical session at Dunstaffnage this morning.

Huge thank you to Liz Mercer of Lorn Coastal Rowing Club for all the organising and rescheduling due to previous bad weather, and to Liz Furrie and Anne Purcell SCRA training reps, leading us out so well.

Any Second Hand Skiffs out there??
Clubs involved in building their own skiff will know just how long that can take.... Although ours is still in the build phase (beginning to fit out the interior) we're really keen to get out in our local waters sometime this summer and learning how to row together.

So, we're interested in buying or renting a second hand skiff.
Do please get in touch if you know of a club who might be selling one OR who might even consider renting us one of their boats for the summer.
We have a road trailer for pickup. Thanks very much.

Fun things to do on a dreich Saturday: some dedicated club members getting stuck in, removing excess epoxy resin from the interior. We want Speireag to be as light as possible without compromising strength, so that she will live up to her name; Sparrowhawk.

The friendly crews from Boatie Blest - Cockenzie & Port Seton Community Coastal Rowing Club are over in Arisaig for a few days - maybe you've seen them out on the water? A few Moidart Skiffie members met up this morning to add our welcome to their west coast passage (and do a little build research on their four well-maintained skiffs).
Lou, Jean and Anne were lucky enough to be invited for a short row around the bay - we had a blast, building up top tips on rowing technique. A huge thanks to the Club for the opportunity. We wish them continued good weather, safe passage and lots of fun exploring the beautiful coastline around Arisiag, Rhu and Morar.

It's been a long, cold winter, but the Moidart Skiff Build Team haven't been slacking. Thanks to their dedication, an important milestone has at last been reached: the turning over of the hull!

Sharing a moment like this helps to keep the team spirit bright and positive. We're looking forward to starting work on fitting out the interior soon. Anyone in the Moidart area with woodworking skills are very welcome to come and join us in the boat build-shed over the next few months.

April 4th 2026 will go down in Moidart history as we reached our skiff 'turning over' milestone and celebration. Sharing a wee dram to mark this important milestone (thanks Eilish!).

We've still a lot of hard work to do before she's ready for the water, and are putting the call out for semi-skilled helpers in the Moidart area to help us fit out her topsides - to be closer on track to launching sometime this summer.

We're really encouraged by the other Scottish skiff clubs interested in our launch date as they'd love to come row with us on launch day. We'll certainly let you know in advance and try not to double book anything already in the rowing calendar - way to go before that though!

Yesterday in the boat build shed: putting on a coat of epoxy primer on the finished hull. Soon, she'll be ready for turning over!
