Our recent visitors from Canada had two very different days on the water!

On the first day we had light winds, so headed south in the Sound of Kerrera to Barnacarry Bay for lunch. With stronger winds in the forecast for the second day we opted for the Crinal Canal to find calm waters, with the locks, swing bridges, other boats and wildlife providing plenty of interest!

We had a great expedition recently to introduce a group of paddlers from Malta to Scottish sea kayaking! With stronger winds from the north west, we headed to Lismore for shelter. Great camping, and spectacular veiws. We had a great mix of calm conditions with a few lively crossings between the smaller islands to the north of the island.

One of the most memorable moments was realising the contribution a flock of geese can make to the dawn chorus at 5 in the morning!

A great mix of conditions and veiws on our recent expedition to Lismore!

We started at Port Appin before finding shelter from the westerly wind on the eastern shore of Limsore, watching the views of Mull unfold as Loch Linnhe opened up into the Firth of Lorn.

On the second day we made use of the calmer conditions to explore the west coast of Lismore, visit Achanduin Castle and circumnavigate Bernera Island.

On the final day, we headed back up the coast of Lismore towards mountains shrouded in mist and enjoyed fish and chips in the Pierhouse to reward ourselves for the hard paddling!

Another great day on the water with Sarah and Kevin, exploring the crinkled coast of Loch Etive!

Another great day on the water using the new double kayak to help two paddlers prepare for a long distance challenge!

We started in the Sound of Kerrera and worked on coordination and control before heading for a journey round Bach Island. Along the journey we focussed on combining efficient and relaxed paddling that will help on the long, multi-day trip.

Day three of our recent expedition saw us leave Mull and head across to Kerrera and then onto Seil to finish the trip.

Light winds and calm seas made for spectacular corssings between the islands, though we decided that we had given our visitor from Canada an unrepresentive impression of what Scottish sea kayaking is like.

A great way to start the season with a brilliant group of paddlers. I'm looking forward to more trips like this throughout the summer!

On day two of our recent expedition, we headed across from the Garvellachs to the south coast of Mull. We started the ten kilometre crossing paddling into a lively sea that calmed to almost mirror like as we approached the cliffs of Mull. Seeing porpoises helped and the shore inched slowly closer!

After a well-earned lunch stop we weaved our way along the coast of Mull between Loch Buie and Loch Spelve, seeing deer and wild goats on the hillside and eagles in the sky above us. A sandy beach and flat grass at the end of the day was the perfect place to rest weary limbs and recover before our final day.

It really feels like summer has kicked off with a bang here on the west coast!

A settled forecast for the first expedition of the season saw us taking a route I have been wanted to take with a group for a while. Starting from Easdale, day one saw us paddle across to Belnahua, along the west coast of the Garvellachs and to our spectacular camping spot on Eileach an Naoimh.

I'm exciting to be working with the brilliant Alice McInnes from Sea Kayak Alice on two tidal paddling courses in October. These courses will use the fantastic venues around Oban to develop the techniques and tactics to survive and thrive in faster flows!

We are running a Tidal Paddling Developer course on the 14th & 15th of October and an Tidal Paddling Introduction on the 16th of October.
