REPORT
Once again the match was a “sell-out”, and there were 18 trusty souls spaced out around Lake Two in anticipation of a decent day’s sport, with the payout as normal, to the overall winner and then defaulting to the top two anglers on each side of the lake.

To say it was not the best of weather would be an understatement, as we experienced something of everything, from bright sunshine and light wind to strong gusts, thunder and either heavy rain or hailstones, the latter falling so hard at one time that the surface of the lake turned white with floating pea-sized balls of ice. Despite this, there were decent catches made all around the lake, with two weights over a hundred pounds and with over fifty pounds required to get in the top nine.

Chris Kimberley on peg A8 had some fortune when the angler on A6 unfortunately had to leave due to a family emergency just after the start. This enabled him to draw fish from the area into his margins, and fishing meat on the pole, he caught some decent carp for 130-05 for the overall win.

On the opposite bank, on B17, Tony Lamb was into fish from the start, fishing his method feeder towards the big island, and he caught fish regularly all day to amass a weight of 122-14, one fish short of winning. Settling for second place overall, Tony topped the B bank pool, well clear of Gaz Kitch (peg B21) in third place overall with 88-12, who took second place on the “B” bank, also on the method.

Andy Findlay (B3) was fourth overall with 86-14, followed by Lee Clark, 74-13 from peg B19, and John Brandrick (B15) with 68-14.

Pete Stockwin (peg A10), returning after a three-week break, was straight into the money with his 68-03 for seventh place overall, which won, by default, the “A” bank pool, with Alan Robertshaw (A12 and in ninth overall) taking second on the “A” bank with his pole/meat margin caught weight of 56-04.

Many thanks to Andy Findlay for his scale work at the weigh-in. The photos show the successful anglers on the day.

Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).

09/06/2026

With a "Full House" tomorrow, the payout will be £88 to the winner, then (defaulting) £60 and £40 to the top two on each bank (A and B).

REPORT
The hot and sunny weather has passed, and the drop in temperature was welcome to both fish and anglers, who arrived at Lake Two to be greeted with a stiff SW breeze and mainly cloudy conditions, with intermittent rain showers throughout the day.

Last week the A bank dominated the results, but this week saw a complete reversal with the top five weights all coming from the B bank.
The payout, as usual, was to the overall winner, and then defaulting to the top two weights on each bank (A and B).

John Brandrick was once again pleased with his draw of B18, and by switching between the pellet waggler, the slow sinking waggler and bomb, he caught carp to accumulate a weight of 119-04 to take top prize for the second week running.

He was pushed close by Shaun W**d on peg B1, who ended the match with 113-11, rueing that he had lost several decent carp that had snapped his hook lengths. Shaun fished the pole short, baiting and feeding pellets, ending in second place overall and top in the B bank pool.

On peg B14, Tony Lamb started on the method feeder for a few fish, and when bites ceased, he changed to bomb and pellet for several more before the wind increased and he could no longer fire out pellets to feed his swim, and the fish moved. He switched to the pole short and corn to add several more decent carp in the last hour to finish just short of the “ton” on 99-05 for third overall and take second in the B bank pool.

Lloyd Hayes on B11 fished the pole short, with corn, for fourth overall with 95-13, with Tony Blackwell (B23) catching his fifth-placed 83-09 on the bomb and pellet fished towards the island.

The two end pegs on the A bank took the spoils (and filled the next two places). Phil Beard on peg A6 caught on pole short and in his margins for a weight of 56-06 for sixth place overall and to win the A bank, with Steve Bentley (peg A19), catching in his left margin on maggots over groundbait for his 46-06 for seventh overall and second on the A bank.

Many thanks to John B and Phil for their help with the weigh-in. The photos show the top anglers on the day.

REPORT
Due to the continued hot weather, the match was reduced to five hours for fish safety reasons, but as the carp had completed spawning the previous day, the ban on fishing within two metres of the bank (or island) was lifted. Unfortunately, due to carp’s strenuous activities over the previous few days, they generally were not interested in feeding, although they could be seen all around the lake.

The payout was as normal – the overall winner, then defaulting to the top two on each bank of the lake (A and B), and fishing times were adjusted to a 12 noon start to 5 pm.

John Brandrick, a master of mugging and fishing shallow, was thrilled with his draw of peg A6, and even more pleased to see vast numbers of fish had accumulated there, many appearing to be rooting in the bottom. By fishing with a pellet waggler throughout the match, John was soon into fish, and caught slowly and steadily until around 4 pm, after which he did not have a bite. His final tally of 112 lbs more than doubled the weight of the runner-up.

John Adamson on peg A8, in deeper water and a long island cast of 40m, caught a skimmer on his second cast with the method feeder, then an F1 to keep it company. It was not until 3 pm that carp were prepared to feed, and by 4 pm be had added 6 carp and another skimmer to his net, at which point the swim “died”. However, his 53-10 weight was enough for second overall, and to win the A bank pool.

Third place fell to Belgian visitor Davy Baetens, who was on peg A16. Davy caught his carp on maggots, presented on the pole in his margins, and his 47-00 took second place on the A bank.

Tony Brookes, who was on peg B18, filled fourth spot overall and was first in the B bank pool. He caught several fish on the pellet waggler fished towards the island, and ended with a decent carp on his slow sinking waggler fished over the deeper water halfway over. His weight was 44-04.

Andy Findlay on peg B3 mugged two decent carp in the first 10 minutes, but unfortunately for him, he only managed to tempt three more fish in the remainder of the match. His total of 41-03 secured fifth place overall and the final place in the B bank pool.
Hopefully, by next week, the fish will have fully recovered and be ready to feed.

Many thanks to John Brandrick and Tony Brookes for the scales operating, the photos shown are of the top anglers on the day.
