Nuneaton Olympic Gymnastic Club is a vibrant and welcoming club that has a proud history in the region’s gymnastics. The roots of the Club, and its close relationship with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, can be traced back to the 1970’s. In February 2011, the Club realised a long-term ambition to become an independent, non-profit organisation and moved into its own premises in Weddington Te
rrace, Nuneaton. Since moving, the Club has sought to improve considerably the facilities on offer and has purchased various pieces of apparatus, as well as the installing a sprung floor and an inflatable tumble track. In September 2012 the Club was awarded over £50k from the Sport England Olympic Legacy Fund, which was used to install a spectator viewing platform, upgrade the lighting in the gym hall and refurbish an upstairs room which has been sub-let as a dance studio. The revenue from the sub-let has been invested in employing more gymnastic coaches which has allowed the Club to expand further. Since moving to Weddington Terrace the Club has grown from a base of 90 members to over 360 members by 2014 and we now offer pre-school and adult classes in addition to both girls and boys in developmental and recreational gymnastics. Such investment relies heavily on grants and charitable donations and there are further improvements that the Club would like to make, as and when funds become available. These aspirations include sunken pits. The Club is affiliated to British Gymnastics and is a holder of the ‘GymMark’ accreditation – an assurance of quality tested by British Gymnastics on behalf of Sport England to provide parents and gymnasts with the reassurance that the club is nationally recognised as safe, effective and child friendly. This accreditation also recognises that the Club is committed to encouraging young people to take up sport, whilst focusing on improving their talent and maintaining a life-long participation in sport. In November 2012 the Club was awarded the status of Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), thus securing it as a non-for-profit organisation for future generations of local gymnasts.
