MAY BUMPS 2026 MBC REPORT:

After a productive training camp in Lake Bled, members of MBC hit the ground running at the start of Easter term in preparation for bumps. MBC entered a total of five crews this year: O1, O2, O3 and W1 & W2

The first men’s crew rowed over in the first two days of bumps, chasing down Jesus O1. They put up an impressive fight against King’s O1 and Pembroke O1 chasing them down on Friday and Saturday, respectively, and finished the campaign on station 8 in the first division.

The men’s second crew started off on station 4 in the third division, and successfully managed to bump Clare Hall O1 on day 1 and Downing O2 on day 2! The crew rowed over on day 3 and will be starting on station 3 division 3 next year.

The men’s third boat produced impressive results despite the fact that most of the crew learned how to row a few weeks before bumps. They finished thirteenth in the men’s fourth division.

The women’s first boat showed a strong performance against speedy crews. On the final day of bumps, the crew rowed over, chasing down Selwyn W1 and moving quickly away from King’s W1. The crew displayed a huge step up since lent bumps.

The women’s second boat had an amazing campaign, continuing the success of lent bumps. The crew very rapidly bumped Pembroke W3 (day 2) and Queen’s W3 (day 4) within the first few minutes of the race, and received two technical row overs due to late clearance of boats ahead.

Well done to all crews who raced, and we look forward to seeing you next year as a student/alumni! GTF 💜💜💜

Huge congratulations to W2 for their performance in the Talbott Cup🏆🎉!!

W2 not only won their category, but received The John Grenfell-Shaw Trophy for being the fastest women’s crew in the regatta ⚡️

The Talbott Cup is a 800m side-by-side race, and Magdalene W2 beat Darwin W2 and Fitzwilliams W2 by 3.5 lengths for both races. We’re all excited to see what they’ll bring to May bumps 2026…💪

Fairbairns Cup 2025 ✔️

A strong end to the term for MBC at Fairbairns, with six crews racing across Thursday and Friday.

On Thursday, our novices took on their longest race yet (2700m) whilst battling torrential rain. The 1st Novice Women’s VIII delivered a strong row in their division, placing 14th out of 31 top crews. The Novice Open VIII finished ahead of Homerton and Corpus, delivering good results in a large and competitive division. The novices have been committed to their training throughout Michaelmas term, and we are excited to see what they will bring to the boat club as seniors next term💪

On Friday, our senior crews followed up with determined racing across the divisions. The Open IV raced well to finish 10th out of 23 top crews, while the Open 2nd VIII, including a mix of seniors and novices, displayed a strong performance racing the longest course of 4300m. The women’s side entered two IVs which placed 7th and 12th overall, indicating promising prospects to bumps next term.

Well done to all athletes who raced, and thank you to our coaches, alumni and friends for their continued support throughout the term. Onwards to Lent Bumps!

Well done to everyone who competed at QErgs last weekend!!🎉🎉

NM1 and NW1 entered their first race last Sunday, involving a 8x500m sprint relay on the erg. There were some huge watts pulled on the machine💪💪, and NM1 and NW1 came 11th and 7th, respectively, in their divisions. We look forward to seeing them competing in their first race on the water in the upcoming Emma Sprints!⚡️⚡️
