Notts FA Saturday Senior Trophy Round 1

Bridon AFC 1 - 3 Eastwood & Kimberley FC

Eastwood & Kimberley FC progress into the second round of the Notts FA Saturday Senior Trophy after a convincing 3–1 victory away to Bridon AFC on Saturday afternoon.

Spicer's men travelled north of the county looking to find the winning formula and book their place in the next round of the County Cup.

E&K initially lined up with a diamond in midfield, but it quickly became apparent that it wasn't quite clicking. A change back to a 4-3-3 brought an immediate improvement, with the visitors beginning to take control of the game and dictate the tempo.

The breakthrough came from a short corner. Regan Bates played the ball to Corey-Lee Waters, who took aim from the edge of the box and produced a superb finish into the top corner, giving the Bridon goalkeeper absolutely no chance.

0–1 E&K.

Moments later, E&K doubled their advantage.

This time it was Liam Bates who found the net, again from the edge of the box, with another excellent strike that flew into the top corner and beyond the reach of the Bridon stopper.

0–2.

E&K were firmly in control and took their two-goal advantage into the interval.

HALF TIME: Bridon AFC 0–2 Eastwood & Kimberley FC

The second half followed a similar pattern, with E&K continuing to control proceedings and limiting the hosts' opportunities.

The visitors eventually got their reward for their dominance with around 15 minutes remaining.

Brooklyn Woolley, who had worked tirelessly throughout the afternoon, got the goal his performance deserved to make it 3–0 and seemingly put the tie beyond doubt.

Bridon did manage to grab a consolation late on from a corner, but there was no real danger of E&K surrendering their advantage.

The final whistle confirmed what had been a professional cup performance.

FULL TIME: Bridon AFC 1–3 Eastwood & Kimberley FC

A strong away performance, three goals and a place in Round 2 of the Notts FA Saturday Senior Trophy. Nobody can complain at that!
For Tom Spicer and his squad, it's another step forward as the new-look E&K Firsts continue to find their identity.

POTM πŸ† Jake Martin - Played Left back all game and was absolutely solid. A top performance.

Gaffers Thoughts πŸ’ Tom Spicer - β€˜β€™Proper away performance today. It was a bit edgy in the first 10 mins, back and forth but all in all took control with and without ball after a tweak of formation and deservedly won the game and we’ve gone through. This team is only going get better as time goes on.’’

Ash Eaton - β€˜β€™Another really good performance where everyone put 110% in. Last week we were unlucky to lose 1-0 when I thought we were the better side, and today we backed that performance up with a 3-1 cup win. The work rate and togetherness has been brilliant in both games. If we can keep those standards up, I genuinely think we’ll be able to compete in every game this season, which would already be a massive improvement on last year. Hopefully now we can keep building, get some momentum going and start putting some good results on the board.’’

We thank Bridon AFC for the game and wish them well for the season 🀝

Eastwood & Kimberley FC 2️⃣ - 4️⃣ Calverton MW White

Eastwood & Kimberley FC U18s got their league campaign underway with a challenging 2–4 defeat against Calverton MW White at the Dale Club.

Having been unable to play any pre-season fixtures due to player availability and recruitment issues, the U18s went into their opening league game with just 12 players available. It was always going to be a tough introduction, but the priority was to get the group onto the pitch, begin building relationships and gel as quickly as possible.

The visitors, who competed in the U16 Division One last season, provided a strong opening test for an E&K side still finding its feet.

Calverton took control of the early stages and E&K eventually found themselves 2–0 down at half-time. However, the scoreline didn't tell the whole story, with plenty of positives for the young Lions to take into the second half.

The second period saw Calverton extend their advantage to 3–0, but E&K refused to let their heads drop which is a sure sign that there will be good things to come.

The hosts finally got themselves on the scoresheet through Jacob, giving the team a much-needed lift and something to build on.

Calverton continued to threaten and added a fourth with around ten minutes remaining, but once again E&K showed character to keep pushing until the final whistle.

Their persistence was rewarded when Dylan grabbed E&K's second of the game.

FULL TIME: Eastwood & Kimberley FC U18s 2–4 Calverton MW White

It wasn't the start E&K would have hoped for in terms of the result, but there were certainly positives to take from a first competitive outing with a newly assembled group.

The important thing now is to take the lessons from today, build on the positives and continue working hard in training.

POTM πŸ†- Joint award between Alex and Luno. Well done to both!

GAFFERS THOUGHTS πŸ’ Overall, we knew today was going to be tough regardless of the fact its a higher division. This was effectively a pre season game for us as we hadn't played any fixtures during the 'pre season period' due to trying to recruit to ensure we could start the season. Add to that a very good opposition who have stepped up from Division One at U16 level, it was always going to be a test. However, With only 12 available and 3 new players we gave a real good account of ourselves. Effort and energy was high throughout too. With more time on the training pitch together and given time to gel, we are certain we will do just fine.

There is a long season ahead, and this group will only get better with more minutes, more training and more time together.

We thank Calverton for the game and wish them well for the season 🀝

UNDER 18'S NEWS 🟑⚫️

After last seasons unbeleivable successes, unfortunately Its been a pretty stressful time for all concerned with our U18's this summer. Hindsight is a beautiful thing and maybe a move to U23 football should have been taken up and of course, we are still learning as to how best to keep things ticking as we develop our pathway from Moorgreen to ourselves.

Some players became too old to continue to compete at this level and those coming up from Moorgreen Colts from U16 have excelled within the senior set up, which of course is absolutely fantastic.

These factors plus many other factors, meant there was a real possibility that the U18's may cease to continue.

However, we never give up too easily and with constant advertisement from Ant via socials, Committee members in sharing and the determination of Kev and Scott (especially in keeping the core group together) as well as adding a few new faces, we can now confirm we are pushing ahead and look to be set to welcome Calverton Miners Welfare White to The Dale Club this Saturday morning.

We of course remain fully committed to recruiting more players and so again, if playing Under 18 football is for you and your aged 16 - 18, please do get in touch!

⚽️ Training continues on Wednesday 6:15 - 7:15 at The Dale

If you can, get along on Saturday and give our lads that extra support as they embark on Division Two football this season!

Eastwood & Kimberley FC 0️⃣ - 1️⃣ Holbrook Sports Development

The league season is finally underway.

E&K welcomed Holbrook Sports Development to The Dale Club for the opening fixture of the CMAFL Division One Central campaign, hoping to start the season with a positive result.

Unfortunately, the result wasn't quite what E&K wanted, with the visitors leaving Jacksdale with a narrow 1–0 victory. However, whilst the score line may not provide the optimism we were looking for, the performance certainly did and its the performance that we should take into the upcoming fixtures.

E&K started slowly and a smart save from Fisher kept Holbrook at bay but eventually E&K grew into the game and created some excellent opportunities, with the hosts unfortunate not to be ahead by the half-time whistle.

Austin Jayes just couldn't quite get on the end of a dangerous ball across the six-yard box, whilst Regan Bates thought he had opened the scoring with a beautifully executed lob β€” only to see the effort cannon back off the crossbar before being cleared.

Other opportunities came and went, with E&K unable to find that crucial finishing touch to punish the visitors for the chances they were creating.

Despite not taking the lead, there was plenty to be encouraged by. E&K looked organised, competitive and far more assured than we've seen for some time.

HT - E&K 0 - 0 Holbrook Sports Development

Holbrook came out with a different vigour but with Liam Gregory and Ash Eaton marshalling a new look backline very well, you'd be forgiven for thinking there was no way past. Unfortunately, Holbrook capitalised on a spell of pressure with possibly the best passage of football in the game.

Interchanging passes on the right angle of the E&K box released the Holbrook striker, who calmly slotted the ball beyond Harry Fisher to put the visitors ahead. 0–1.

E&K heads didn't drop although frustrations were starting to show as the game descended into hoof ball and scrappy passages. E&K continued to compete and push for an equaliser, refusing to let the setback derail what had otherwise been a very encouraging performance.

Youngster Brooklyn Woolley came on and was causing all sorts of issues for the Holbrook backline but E&K still couldn't find that moment.

The final whistle eventually arrived with Holbrook taking all three points, despite E&K having created enough opportunities to feel they deserved something from the game.

FULL TIME: Eastwood & Kimberley FC 0–1 Holbrook Sports Development

Player of the Match πŸ†- Liam Bates - Ran his socks off and played with calmness and maturity when needed. Will be a big player this season in a very youthful team.

πŸ’ Of course, nobody at E&K is going to pretend that a defeat is what we wanted from our opening league fixture. Points are what matter, and we leave The Dale Club empty-handed but sometimes the bigger picture matters too.

The optimism surrounding this group after today's performance is far higher than it has been for a long while and if the group can stick together and repeat the same sort of performance in the coming weeks, this season will certainly be far better.

There is plenty to work on, plenty to improve and plenty of football still to be played β€” but there is also something to build upon.

We go again.

We thank Holbrook Sports Development for the game and wish them well for the season 🀝
