Notts FA Saturday Senior Trophy Round 1
Bridon AFC 1 - 3 Eastwood & Kimberley FC
Eastwood & Kimberley FC progress into the second round of the Notts FA Saturday Senior Trophy after a convincing 3β1 victory away to Bridon AFC on Saturday afternoon.
Spicer's men travelled north of the county looking to find the winning formula and book their place in the next round of the County Cup.
E&K initially lined up with a diamond in midfield, but it quickly became apparent that it wasn't quite clicking. A change back to a 4-3-3 brought an immediate improvement, with the visitors beginning to take control of the game and dictate the tempo.
The breakthrough came from a short corner. Regan Bates played the ball to Corey-Lee Waters, who took aim from the edge of the box and produced a superb finish into the top corner, giving the Bridon goalkeeper absolutely no chance.
0β1 E&K.
Moments later, E&K doubled their advantage.
This time it was Liam Bates who found the net, again from the edge of the box, with another excellent strike that flew into the top corner and beyond the reach of the Bridon stopper.
0β2.
E&K were firmly in control and took their two-goal advantage into the interval.
HALF TIME: Bridon AFC 0β2 Eastwood & Kimberley FC
The second half followed a similar pattern, with E&K continuing to control proceedings and limiting the hosts' opportunities.
The visitors eventually got their reward for their dominance with around 15 minutes remaining.
Brooklyn Woolley, who had worked tirelessly throughout the afternoon, got the goal his performance deserved to make it 3β0 and seemingly put the tie beyond doubt.
Bridon did manage to grab a consolation late on from a corner, but there was no real danger of E&K surrendering their advantage.
The final whistle confirmed what had been a professional cup performance.
FULL TIME: Bridon AFC 1β3 Eastwood & Kimberley FC
A strong away performance, three goals and a place in Round 2 of the Notts FA Saturday Senior Trophy. Nobody can complain at that!
For Tom Spicer and his squad, it's another step forward as the new-look E&K Firsts continue to find their identity.
POTM π Jake Martin - Played Left back all game and was absolutely solid. A top performance.
Gaffers Thoughts π Tom Spicer - ββProper away performance today. It was a bit edgy in the first 10 mins, back and forth but all in all took control with and without ball after a tweak of formation and deservedly won the game and weβve gone through. This team is only going get better as time goes on.ββ
Ash Eaton - ββAnother really good performance where everyone put 110% in. Last week we were unlucky to lose 1-0 when I thought we were the better side, and today we backed that performance up with a 3-1 cup win. The work rate and togetherness has been brilliant in both games. If we can keep those standards up, I genuinely think weβll be able to compete in every game this season, which would already be a massive improvement on last year. Hopefully now we can keep building, get some momentum going and start putting some good results on the board.ββ
We thank Bridon AFC for the game and wish them well for the season π€
