CPPS | NXL Europe | ECPL Event Write-Up
We did it! We managed to work alongside one of the most reputable operations in the UK paintball scene, the CPPS, and host an ECPL event alongside existing tournaments, so that we could get 10-man in front of an audience that has largely never seen, nor played it. Thank you to Ainsley, Dylan and all of the CPPS crew for being open to this and such accommodating hosts 🙏
Knowing that many ECPL regulars would be torn by having to choose which format to participate in, we knew ahead of time that some sign ups would be last minute and were delighted to host 9 teams in total, including two scratch teams and Sporting Portugal from the NXL's Semi-Pro division.
The NXL Europe layout made up the central section of the ECPL layout with extensions either end to give a longer field giving players an abundance of opportunities to showcase their skills. Two unique bunkers were also in play on the 50's: a devils head reminiscent of the old Diablo days and a tunnel that provided something for everyone to try and understand how they could implement it.
Having the event alongside the NXL and CPPS, meant that players had full access to the trade village, tech support and concessions, all of which proved popular throughout the hot and humid weekend.
The refs worked tirelessly throughout the event and once again did an exemplary job of keeping everyone safe and playing within the rules. As a side note it was fantastic to see so many spectators come and view the event; hopefully this will afford them the opportunity to talk to their teams about getting involved in the future.
MVP honours for the day went to Liam from Corruption paintball team who in only his third event ever, put the afterburners on and consistently pushed the boundaries each and every game, earning himself a Powerhouse Competition Air Regulator in the process! Well done young man!

9th place: Fat Freddy's Cat (70 points)
I feel for FFC as they're in a tough spot where their gun skills and experience also need a boost of agility and speed in order to generate results. This was a layout that rewarded aggressive play and when one team took the initiative, they normally came out on top. 35 kills over the course of 8 games is a bitter pill to swallow, especially in hot and humid conditions, but here's hoping that some mid-season recruitment will see them in better shape in time for Mayhem in September 👍
8th place: Just For Fun (131 points)
JFF was a scratch team facilitate by Russ Carpenter DYE UK and ably captained by Stephen Lennox. It's always brilliant to see the look on players faces when they experience 10-man for the first time and we're grateful to Russ and Steve for creating that opportunity for so many of them. The highlight of their day was a solitary win against FFC in their second game. Despite the lack of success, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and we look forward to welcoming them back to the ECPL in the future.
7th place: Mayhem Tigers Gold (336 points)
Tigers Gold have already won an event this season on Supair so must have come into this confidently, knowing their capabilities. Am opening couple of losses to Tigers Black and Sporting gave them a wake up call and they managed to craft out wins against FFC, Just For Fun and Corruption over the course of the day. Their final game against Faction would decide honours in the Amateur division and a loss meant that only 7 points separated the top three Amateur teams on the day.
6th place: Corruption paintball team (340 points) Amateur Runner-Up
Kudos to Corruption for fielding a full strength team in both the CPPS (Div 3) and the ECPL on the same day - that is only achieved with a committed player base and brilliant leadership 👏 Waggy was given the honour of captaining the horde for this event and by all accounts did an admirable job, with their defining moment being a standout match against Rushers that really pushed their Pro counterparts to the limit. Fantastic to see them regaining their form of previous years and looking forward to seeing what they can do at Mayhem in a few months time.
5th place: Faction (343 points) Amateur Champions
Faction had a tough start to their day as several regulars had CPPS / NXL commitments and were not available to assist until later on, so had to rely on guest players in many games. That said, it was fantastic to see them take some tough losses against Tigers, Corruption, Sporting and Rushers in their stride and still knuckle down in the afternoon to grind out a very close victory in the Amateur division. The ethos of the team is to facilitate U18's getting a chance to play classic paintball alongside a handful of experienced players. This event I felt that was diluted a little, and hope that Mayhem gives them the opportunity to continue to share these experiences with the upcoming generation. 4th place: Expendables (594 points)
The Expendables are one of the most consistent and competitive teams in the league and it is testament to the depth of quality that we have in the ECPL that two losses, one against Rushers in their second match and one against Sporting in their final match, can be the difference between victory and 4th place! With such a controlled approach to every game they sometimes give their opponents too much time to acclimatise and in a game of millimetres these decisions can cost them. With two events left, one of which is in very familiar territory, it's going to be an exciting finish to the season all round.
3rd place: Mayhem Tigers Black (606 points)
The Tigers were always intent on putting a second team into the event despite having several players already committed to goings on at the NXL. A Saturday night scramble of phone calls and conversations whilst watching the Pro prelims, meant that a truly international squad featuring the MacDev Paintball (Official) Factory team, Droogs Frankfurt am MAIN Paintball team and friends banded together to play under the Tigers Black banner. Two solitary losses against Expendables and Sporting, and being the only team to beat Rushers, meant that they finished 3rd overall by one single point!
2nd place: Sporting Portugal (607 points) Pro Runner-Up
When NXL Europe plans don't go to plan, we're always happy to accommodate teams and players who are already at the event and want to play more paintball. Sporting recruited Ethan and Alex from the Lucky 15s Mustangs and Joe from Trash Panda Paintball to bolster their already talented squad and it didn't take long to realise that they were here to play winning their first 6 games straight. A nail biter loss against Rushers and a high scoring draw was enough to see them finish as Runners Up in a competitive Pro Division.
1st place: Rushers (683 points) Pro Champions.
Widely recognised as the team to beat in 10-man classic paintball, Rushers were pushed all the way to the finishing line this event. Having won their opening six games against FFC, Just For Fun, Faction, Expendables, Tigers Gold and Sporting, a loss against an intent Tigers Black team in their penultimate game set up a final match against Corruption who were also vying to win their division. Both teams came out ferociously and it was Corruption who had the upper hand for the bulk of the game. Experience matters though and some calm calculated thinking allowed Rushers to stem the flow of bodies leaving the field and regain their composure to grind out a tough win in the match of the event, taking 1st place honours in the process.
