Blinked and May disappeared...

By far not the easiest month.

A month of moving house, navigating a tough race, balancing work, coaching and training, and finishing the month injured wasn't exactly how I imagined it would go.

But amongst the challenges, there were still plenty of wins. Sessions completed, lessons learned, memories made, and another reminder that progress isn't always measured by results or race times.

Sometimes it's measured by showing up when things feel hard and finding a way to keep moving forward.

Here's to a fresh month, better health, and trusting the process 🫶🏼

First week back to training post

Started off really well ticked of 6.5hrs of training feeling good and slowly started feeling back to a little more of my normal self & then Thursday a ni**le in my foot has now meant I'm back resting...

After a small panic trip to A&E thinking it could be broken or stress fracture, it's some sort of sprain/strain.

Did manage to finish the week with a spin on the bike probably to disappointment (sorry coach😳)

Trip to see the physio this week to decide how much rest I really need...

shared a post if you met your younger self...
So here are my answers.

1. What would make them happy about you
She'd be happy to know that I'm happy, She’d be proud that even after setbacks and hard times, I still keep showing up and chasing more for myself both in life & sport.

2. What would make them sad about you
She would be sad to know the life she dreamed of isn't the life I'm living. The sports psychologist she wanted to become isn't quite what I'm doing now, but I'm doing so much more.

3. What would your younger self need to hear from you today
I’d tell her that resilience will carry her through moments she never thinks she’ll survive, and that her gut instinct is usually right. Trust yourself more, because the strongest version of you appears when you stop looking for permission from everyone else.

You do NOT lose fitness by taking a few days to recover after a race.

After an event, your body is carrying more fatigue than most athletes realise not just physically, but mentally too.

Whether your race went brilliantly or completely off plan, racing places huge stress on the body:
• Muscles
• Nervous system
• Hormones
• Sleep
• Mindset
• Recovery capacity

And sometimes the mental fatigue from chasing goals, managing pressure or feeling disappointed can be just as draining as the physical effort itself.

The temptation after a tough race is often to jump straight back into hard training to “make up for it”… but that usually leads to poor sessions, burnout, illness or injury.

Recovery is where adaptation happens.
Recovery is where progress happens.

A few easier days can help you:
✔️ absorb training
✔️ restore energy
✔️ reduce injury risk
✔️ regain motivation
✔️ come back stronger physically and mentally

Rest is not falling behind.
It’s part of becoming a better athlete 🫶🏼

First 70.3 of the year done ✅

Not the best day for me personally but I'm proud & still have many positives to take from the day.

Standing on the pontoon very nervous as this would've been my first OWS of the year. Jumped in the water and instantly panicked (likely due to how cold the water was) spent 5 minutes catching my breath getting used to the cold contemplating if I even wanted to carry on.

Started swimming and got a nice rhythm and a sub 30 minutes swim (rather pleased about this).

Out on the bike, surface was really rough!!
90km in 3hrs, I was expecting quicker but considering I felt very "meh" I'm very pleased with that. Some work to be done staying in TT position and getting confident in that position.

Run 2:02... by this point I was ready to give up. Battled a few issues but I somehow I made it to the finish line.

Underwhelmed, disappointed but also very proud of myself. At many times my body & mind gave up but I managed to pull myself together and finish🥹
