Your bum needs more than just strengthening and stretching.

Besides, if you feel stiff or tense around your hips it might not feel good doing weighted squats and all the other glute strengthening stuff everyone’s doing.

I’ve been there…achy hips and knees too, now that we’re talking about aches an pains. I wanted to get stronger and create a fine looking bottom. But whatever I did wasn’t working.

Enter the Franklin method, a more sophisticated approach, using imagery and anatomical embodiments.

I now love squats, hips and lower back feeling better and better. (Your glutes are so important in supporting those areas).

If nothing else, try tapping your bottom before working it! 😃

Has this ever happened to you?

You’re at a yoga or Pilates class or maybe you’re following a workout plan. A certain exercise comes up…one that you hate! You start thinking: “Oh, god, no! Not this. This always hurts my…( fill in the gap), I wish she/he didn’t teach this one. When is it going to be over?? I hate this class!

Guilty?

I am!

I think we’ve all been there.

But here’s the thing:

Thoughts have an immediate effect on your body, so by thinking negative things while performing a movement you will negatively affect your body and the movement in question will feel less pleasant. Try to be aware of your thoughts and see what kind of positive words can be applied during a movement to improve your state of being.

Here’s an easy example:

If you feel that your shoulders are tense, move them up and down and say “ My shoulders are relaxed, they move with ease, I love moving my shoulders, this feels great”...and so on. You can use your own words.

Give it a go!

Inspired by last weekend's Franklin method training where we took a deep dive into the mysteries of the foot, this Wednesday in class we give some well deserved care and attention to our feet. To not neglect our upper body either we'll throw in a dash of lower back fascia care.

If this sounds good to you, join the class! Please note, you will need a pair of massage balls for this class (tennis balls will work too).

What is the one thing common on the pictures?

They are all FAKE!!!

I was in pain on every single one of them and they were all taken for a Pilates website in different times of my life (I moved a lot so had to start all over a few times).

I was in complete denial for the longest time and didn't want to admit it wasn't working. Until my body said: "NO MORE"!

Finally, I'm done with fakery! Nowadays it's all about feel good, delicious, nurturing movements.

Thank you, Franklin method, for showing a better way! 🙏

Always be concerned with how it feels (not how it looks). Sense, observe and choose positive language around your body and movement!

This Wednesday we will be focusing on the pelvic floor in class. Such an important area of the body that requires more variability in training than simply just lifting or squeezing and releasing. How your pelvic floor functions will influence the health of your hip joints, your lower back, your breath and more!

Join us in class this Wednesday to experience the awesomeness that is pelvic floor training Franklin method style.

I run a class on every Wednesday at 6pm on Zoom. It's 45 min long and is a combination of Franklin method (in a nutshell: anatomical embodiments and imagery) and Pilates.
Classes are recorded (so you can catch up later even if you can't make it live) and lately featuring our new doggy, demonstrating lying around expertly. 😃 While he does that we move our bodies in a way that honours it's amazing design. We tap, we shake, we rub, breathe, strengthen and more!

Join us!

This is Peanut, he loves to be in your way. He lies down in the middle of my movement space often. He did bury his head into my armpit the other day as I lied down on the floor to do my practice. I had to stop to give him a belly rub. 😀🥰

Do you have pets disturbing your practice? I'd love to see some pictures!

Throwback to level 1 Franklin method exam time.

This method has given me so much, it's been helping me heal in a big way. I'm feeling so much more comfortable in my body and I can move with much more freedom and ease. Pain was my norm for so long, I had no idea how good can movement feel without it.

The learning hasn't stopped, I'm now doing the level 2 course and the upgrades in my body keep on happening.

If you'd like a sneak peak to the method you can try a class for free tonight at 6pm.

The last class of the year will be a 30 min tension releasing sequence.

"The best posture is the next posture." - Eric Franklin

I've found something to help me with this, something to get me out of the chair (or bed 😳 🤫) and into the next posture.

It's called the Pomodoro method (sadly no Italian food is involved) and this is how it works:

You work/focus on a task for 25 minutes then you take a break for 5 minutes, then work for 25, then 5 min break...

This helps me with being able to focus a lot (something I have struggled with massively) and keeps my body from getting too tense/achy or getting stressed when, for example, the computer isn't doing what I need it to do.

It works wonders, so I thought I'd share. It's hard to get new habits to stick but this one seems to stay. :)

I often end up doing a couple stretches in the break, sometimes it's tea making but the rule is I must get up.

Let me know if you try it! x

Just got back from my "sanity walk".

I'm not a fan of winter, so around this time of the year on most days I have to make myself do it. But I always feel better for it.

Walking isn't just good for your mental health, it's one of our basic functions. We were made to walk!

It's one of the best things you can do to keep your pelvis mobile. It's also an excellent opportunity to practice awareness. For example you can place your hands on your pelvic halves and observe how they move. Or feel which part of your foot touches the ground first, what happens in your hip joint...the list is endless.

Awareness is the first step towards change and therefore one of the most important skill you can practice.

Go for a walk and notice your body!
