We have some exciting events coming up in the early part of 2022. If you can spare a few minutes to read this post, you find find something that you would enjoy.
1. Saturday 5th March 1-30 to 3-30pm Street awareness and personal safety course at Bull Close. Open to and FREE for all BBA members (£10 for non BBA members). This is a course for all Martial Artists, showing how techniques that you already know, can be used to keep you safe. Please book your place on the BBA website.
There will be 4 sections to this course;
Incoming attacks
Locked on attacks
Blindside attacks
Situations where we find ourselves on the ground.
2. Sunday 3rd April – NAK ‘mat matchups’ tournament at Blackbelt Academy, 9 Bull Close, Norwich (Start time depends upon how many matchups we have).
Rather than turning up at an event and hoping to find an opponent who is a similar size/age/grade/experience as yourself, then spending 1 minute on the mat competing, we will match you in advance and then allow you 3 x 1 minute rounds of competition against your opponent. This way you get lots more experience and the contests are much more even. The Kumite, Freestyle Points & Light Continuous will all be very light contact with NO head contact at all (techniques within 100mm of the head will score).
Please speak to your club instructor if you would like to take part in this or any event mentioned here. Every person from every style will be welcome. The disciplines available are;
Karate Kumite
Karate Kata
Freestyle points (no low kicks)
Light continuous Kickboxing (with low kicks)
We need the following information if you would like to take part;
Your weight
Your height
Combat experience (all disciplines)
No of years training (all disciplines)
Which discipline would you like to compete in? (Freestyle points, Light continuous, Kata or Kumite)
Entry fee is £15. Email [email protected] for more details on rules/requirements etc.
3. Sunday 24th April – NAK ‘Halo Rules Combat’ event (Start times depends upon the number of entries matched). This event will provide a platform for those martial artists who would enjoy full power combat BUT wish to stay in possession of ALL of their brain cells.
The Kickboxing, K1 and Zen Budo Thai bouts will be 3 rounds of continuous action, will take place in a boxing ring and full power techniques will be allowed to the arms, body and legs. Controlled techniques (within 100mm but not making contact) will be allowed to the head. When a scoring head technique is seen, the referee will briefly stop the bout and award one additional point for a punch or 3 additional points for a kick, before restarting the bout. The rounds themselves will also be scored in the usual 10 point must manner and 'additional points' will be added to the 10 point must score. A bout may be won by KO with blows to the body or legs.
The Karate bouts will also take place in a boxing ring but the bout will be stopped each time a point is scored to allow that point to be awarded. Full power techniques are allowed to the arms, legs, and torso. Head techniques will be scored if they are undefended and within 100mm but not if contact is made. A bout may be won by KO with blows to the body or legs.
If you are interested in this ‘Halo Rules Combat’ event, please speak to your instructor and ask them to let us know;
