Rackheath Romp On!
The picture-perfect Ketteringham Hall estate has been in existence since 1066, yet there was little fight from the home side today as the romping Rackheath marched on!
With a wet wicket and cloud cover to whet any bowler's appetite, el capitano Kieran continued his impressive record of defying the odds of a 50/50 call. The 'Heath were batting first.
Ket Hall were buoyed by an early wicket, Kieran (10), before being pegged back by a 100 run partnership between Jean (62) and Scott (62). Jean was his usual classy self, piercing the despairing infield with his imperious cuts and drives. Scott was far more scratchy for his 62 but is now retiring from all forms of cricket in 2021 with a batting average of 170! Selfless late cameos from Rob Holmes (21), Tommy Fiddler (19) and Dan Banks (7) left us within touching distance of maximum batting points and 200 for a second week in a row. In the end, we fell just short and closed on 197-7 from our 45 overs. Plenty for our bowlers to get stuck into.
After 'a few' looseners, our trusty opening bowlers continue to show that age is no barrier. The Handsome Welshman Simon Williams (10-1-20-1) and Poland's finest, Chris Rymarz (7-2-8-0), settled into impressive rhythm, not giving their opening batsman a sniff. It was soon apparent that even attempting to chase down our runs was not on today's agenda. Instead, we endured an eye watering and mind numbing innings from their opener who blocked ball after ball after b...zzzzzzzzz. A few other Ket Hall batsman provided some stubborn resistance and a flurry of attacking shots from their number 5 woke a few of us up from our slumber.
Despite this, our bowlers continued to toil with their usual energy and accuracy. Impressive spells from Tommy Fiddler (6-2-7-1), Dan Banks (5-1-8-3), Golden Arm Newman (7-2-19-2) and Phil Banham (10-0-45-0) all contributed to another imposing victory that was rarely in any doubt.
A few shoutouts to make:
- An apology to Phil Banham for shelling a catch off his bowling, hence my duties of writing today's match report.
- To Jean for dropping more balls than I thought was possible when passing the ball around the field to return the ball to the bowler. Why do these drops not count?!
- To Chris Rymarz for all of his goalkeeping extravagances in the field.
- And finally, to John Newman for getting that bloody opener out!
Up The 'Heath!
