ππSouthern Universities Pool Tournament Round-Upππ
This weekend, we sent 2 teams of 5 to the Southern Universities Pool Tournament! Very impressive pool from both teams over the weekend.
Our 1s had multiple chances to win frames - narrowly missing out on a win in the group stage against the eventual Shield winners. Luck wasnβt on our side, with LSE missing their train which awarded us a straight win to send us into the championship section. We still fought against a seeded team, almost sent them to a play off but it wasnβt our year. Team spirit was high and passion to do well meant we were hard on ourselves but everyone should be proud of getting as far as we did with little table time.
Our 2s had a better run in their groups, clutching 2 wins with one being against the #1 seed of the comp. Making it into the trophy section, the 2s had similar luck to the 1s. They almost got through to a play off by missing out on the deciding frame. Very impressive performances - captain Lewis kept a level head and guided where necessary; the Charrison was silent but deadly, snatching frames in every single team match; then Riley was the absolute MVP going 100% in day 1 and claiming the most team frames overall.
Individuals was very strong for UEA this year. Again, Riley topped the Menβs Trophy results by getting through to the last 16. Jason unfortunately lost his decider to make it to the last 32 of the Menβs Championship.
Then UEA has itβs first individual medalist (according to George) as Poppy reached the final of the Womenβs Individual Championship, bagging Β£65 as well as a medal and trophy.
Frame count:
Poppy 13
Riley 13
Jason 10
Charlie 10
Lewis 8
