HKRC Race weekend. Back in the JDR team tent for testing, looking to improve to keep us battling at the front.

Looking forward to hopefully a strong weekend in the Autotech Recruit red arrow.

Proper dad and lad racing at HKRC where we the pilot was on form and dad did ok with nothing falling off the kart at all!

Expectations weren't too high as funds wouldn't allow for new tyres or a full days testing. So it was a case of trying to save the rubber as best as possible for the final.

H1 P7-P4 decent pace
H2 P4-P4
H3 P4-P3
Final P3-P4

Slightly compromised start in the final, dropped a position and spent the whole race nose to tail trying to get the final podium place but just ran out of laps in a great duel. Pace was strong matching front runners with purple sector 1

Nice to have a fun, competitive day at Kim, especially after last months experience of not being allowed on the grid with wet tyres on when it was raining.

Really tough weekend at Whilton Mill Go Karting and Outdoor activities which turned out OK in the end.

Persistent problems all weekend with all three engines, ranging from electrical, carb through to Dad malfunction and cracked chassis.

Couldn't find grip nor power in testing, including an early break down in the first session.
A very mediocre p11 qualifying out of 25.

Heat 1 saw evasive action push us onto the grass, leaving Josh all but last on lap 1.
Heat 2 saw the same driver that drove up the back of us at Kim, ending our race there, once again commit a stupid attempt to over take and span us out. Even with a poorly engine Josh was quick through the bends, if lacking straight line and acceleration. Recovered as best he could.

Thanks to fellow Dad privateers, our problem was located and Josh lit up with front running pace for the final.

What a weekend HKRC last round. Race engine failure, x3 carb failures, battery tray let go with lipo on fire left on the track, DNF in heat 1 (carb failure) DSQ in heat 3 with confusion over a red flag...and complete brake failure at 60+mph in a lucky place on the track on lap 2 when still warming the tyres.

Pace was good all weekend when everything worked. Josh powered his way back from the back of the field in the final to P5. salvaging something from a very challenging weekend were we could have potentially challenged for a podium.

Easily our best weekend racing at Whilton. Testing was strong, qualifying was stronger.
Even a mistake before the start line on Heat 2 saw Josh down to P11 and got back to P5 on the back on the front karts, but hurt with a non fault drop down. Very close over the line in all races to the podium karts. As little as 0.29 to P3 in the final.

FASTR April Rnd 3 Whilton Mill and what an improvement. Testing was exactly that with team JDR working with Josh to try and find a few tenths.
Not only was that achieved but a level of consistency was there all race day. 2nd fastest in sector 3 in both qualifying and heat 1, with strong sectors all day.
Even a couple of mistakes in both heat 1 and 2 saw several places dropped, but pace brought Josh back up again.

31 drivers

Qualified P8
Heat 1 P8-P10
Heat 2 P8-P12
Final P11 -P9

Genuine pace to rival the front runners, even when both rad stays snapped, bouncing the radiator off the rears for half the race. Nursed home on the last x2 laps.
With a little more experience and understanding it could have been a higher finish, but all in all a pleasing day.

Results weren't great this weekend, but definite improvement with pace and race craft thanks to a little tuition from Lucas Ellingham and Ralph Ellingham which was very much appreciated and worked.

Practice pace was ok around p18-24 in very strong field of 34 with very worn boots. No new tyres this weekend so put our best used on for qualy but was compromised on the last 2 timed laps after running in p10, Josh eventually ended out of position in P27.

Heat 1 was wet and Josh blitzed his way up to P14 before a driver decided Josh wasn't coming past and pushed him off track forcing a spin and giving him a nose cone drop down. He still came back with 4 laps remaining to take to take P11, 5 second penalty, back down to P17. Pace was very good.

Heat 2 Electric start capitalising on incidents and smart overtaking saw Josh go up 14 places in 2 laps to P12. Unfortunately got tagged and spun out, giving us another nose cone drop down, back down to P24. And even when he fought back again to take x1 place at the penultimate bend on the last lap... yes he got tagged again by the kart he just overtaken and spun out just before the finish line.

Final Qualified P21 started well taking x3 places on the first lap before losing power and straight line speed well down.

H2 P27 - P24
Final P21 - P22

Rnd 1 Whilton Mill.

New format with timed qualy in a field of 30.

A dusting of rain shaked things up in qualy. Josh couldn't get a trouble free lap in with everyone tripping over each other, but still managed P13 on the grid.

Heat 1 P13 - P10
Heat 2 P13 - P10
Final P8 - P12

Ran out of steam in the final with exhausted, under the weather driver and got punted out of the way with a couple of bends to go which cost us x2 places. But all in all, a trouble free weekend with some decent dad and lad racing.

Looking forward to HKRC 11/12.03.2023 where we hope to see the rewards for Josh's pace this time around.

Good bits and mediocre bits today. Qualified p13 out of 30 in a real hectic awkward session.
First half of the race was good, 2nd half saw too many costly mistakes losing a few gained places from off the line. P13 prior to noses upfront.

Kimbolton's fastest lawn mower in action (on the black stuff for a change).

X2 heats and a final (not including x1 test session) saw Josh either pushed onto the grass, or evasive action required to avoid collisions from other drivers over zealous attempts. Even a uncoordinated heat start saw us drop x2 places before we even crossed the start line.

However pace was strong all day within the top 5 drivers pace and although we didn't finish where our pace threatened, blasting back through from the pack was fun. Just a shame we ran out of laps as other karts in front were being chased down.

P6- down to P14 back to P10
P9- down to P13 back to P8
P9- down to P14 bac to P7

More work required on switching the tyres on early and positioning the kart to avoid banzai pilots, could be improved.

Looking forward to the weekend with Josh chomping at the bit to get back behind the wheel for the first time in a month and catch up with all team JDR drivers at HKRC
Autotech Recruit red arrow is primed with S Sport Engines on the horses, lets hope we have better luck than last months meeting.
