🛑 When a Paint Job Becomes a Problem...
We had a brand new frame come into the workshop this week that needed a key service before it could be built: the new paint finish had completely filled and covered the disc brake mount faces and threads. 🤦♂️
Why this matters (and why we fix it):
Safety: A disc caliper requires a perfectly flat, parallel surface to align properly. If the mount faces are uneven (due to paint), the brake pads won't contact the rotor correctly, leading to poor braking performance and uneven wear.
Protection: Excess paint in the threads means forcing the bolts, risking damage to the frame mounts.
Our Solution: We used our specialized Park Tool DT-5.2 Disc Brake Mount Facing and Threading Set to carefully remove the excess paint, re-face the mounts to be perfectly parallel, and clean up the threads.
Now the brake caliper will sit perfectly flat, the bolts will thread in smoothly, and this new frame is ready to deliver safe, powerful braking! 💪
This is a small detail, but it makes a huge difference to the final quality and safety of your build.
