I hope everyone is managing to keep safe and healthy.
After 12 months of the dance school needing to close due to COVID-19 (with sadly no government support), it is with a heavy heart that I’ve decided not to reopen the dance school in September for our children’s classes, and would like to provide everyone with as much time as possible to source alternative arrangements for their children’s classes.
Since lockdown, I’ve realised working full time, holding adult fitness classes 5 days a week and running a dance school was not a healthy work/life balance. Countless hours scheduling exams, working Sundays to prepare the children for exams, using weekends and evenings to prepare and organise shows, complete admin, arrange hall hire, pay invoices/teachers, submit accounts, arrange advertising etc, was all at the detriment of sacrificing personal family time to run the school.
I’ve had some amazing memories and wonderful support from parents/teachers since opening in 2006 with our very first dancingtots class. Some children I’ve taught as toddlers, are now preparing themselves for college/university, and it’s been a delight to watch them grow into such talented children.
There are so many memories to treasure but a few highlights that have stuck with me have been our school holiday workshops and the challenge of pulling together a ‘performance’ to parents in 4 days or less sometimes (getting balloons to fall from the ceiling the biggest challenge it seemed!!). Another has been the amazing end of exam performances from the children in their ‘show costumes’ on the BIG stage, bringing tears to my eyes on many occasions as I’m sure it did to you also as filled with pride. The resilience from the children and teachers to get through exam work and do all parents proud, resulting in a 100% pass rate for the dance school since we opened, is a testament to the children, parents and teachers. Finally, the funds we have collectively raised for charity along the way to help families and children sadly going through cancer.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank every single parent and child for having the trust in our dance school and hope we have helped create lots of memories, offered support to parents and children when needed, supported discipline whilst remaining friendly, developed strength and encouraged determination, built lots of friendships, and most of all helped the children grow into wonderful children/young adults.
In the hope that COVID lockdown will be lifted and remain lifted in the summer holidays, I’m looking to hold one final summer holiday workshop with Miss Emily as a way of saying farewell to the children, if anyone would like their children to join us please get in touch before 1st May when any remaining places will be opened up to the community.
A huge THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to everyone involved in our amazing journey x
