I hope everyone is managing to keep safe and healthy.

After 12 months of the dance school needing to close due to COVID-19 (with sadly no government support), it is with a heavy heart that I’ve decided not to reopen the dance school in September for our children’s classes, and would like to provide everyone with as much time as possible to source alternative arrangements for their children’s classes.

Since lockdown, I’ve realised working full time, holding adult fitness classes 5 days a week and running a dance school was not a healthy work/life balance. Countless hours scheduling exams, working Sundays to prepare the children for exams, using weekends and evenings to prepare and organise shows, complete admin, arrange hall hire, pay invoices/teachers, submit accounts, arrange advertising etc, was all at the detriment of sacrificing personal family time to run the school.

I’ve had some amazing memories and wonderful support from parents/teachers since opening in 2006 with our very first dancingtots class. Some children I’ve taught as toddlers, are now preparing themselves for college/university, and it’s been a delight to watch them grow into such talented children.

There are so many memories to treasure but a few highlights that have stuck with me have been our school holiday workshops and the challenge of pulling together a ‘performance’ to parents in 4 days or less sometimes (getting balloons to fall from the ceiling the biggest challenge it seemed!!). Another has been the amazing end of exam performances from the children in their ‘show costumes’ on the BIG stage, bringing tears to my eyes on many occasions as I’m sure it did to you also as filled with pride. The resilience from the children and teachers to get through exam work and do all parents proud, resulting in a 100% pass rate for the dance school since we opened, is a testament to the children, parents and teachers. Finally, the funds we have collectively raised for charity along the way to help families and children sadly going through cancer.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank every single parent and child for having the trust in our dance school and hope we have helped create lots of memories, offered support to parents and children when needed, supported discipline whilst remaining friendly, developed strength and encouraged determination, built lots of friendships, and most of all helped the children grow into wonderful children/young adults.

In the hope that COVID lockdown will be lifted and remain lifted in the summer holidays, I’m looking to hold one final summer holiday workshop with Miss Emily as a way of saying farewell to the children, if anyone would like their children to join us please get in touch before 1st May when any remaining places will be opened up to the community.

A huge THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to everyone involved in our amazing journey x

We hope you and your families are staying safe in these unprecedented times.

Sadly there is no change on guidelines for indoor dance classes requiring 3m distancing. Therefore based on the hall size, it would still remain at max 6 (including the teacher) which sadly does not cover teaching and hire costs.

We are therefore still unable to reopen the children’s classes in the new year and will keep you posted if distancing requirements change to allow us to reconsider restarting classes.

We’d like to wish everyone an amazing Xmas and new year 🎄

We have received a few messages expressing disappointment as to why we are not reopening in September, so would like to give some clarity around our decision at this time having engaged with EMD and taking all factors into consideration.

* education schools are not the same as offering dance classes. School children will be in their school bubbles which are much larger than for activities
* we are permitted to open in bubbles up to 15 however if a child developed symptoms, subsequent classes would need to cease to establish if anyone else present also developed symptoms (this could take 2 weeks) so classes may not be regular
* if a child had symptoms this puts the teacher into a position where no other classes could take place until tested
* asking children of a young age to social distance with min 2m is difficult to manage especially if not a consistent situation they are used to ie may not need to distance at school
* parents would not be allowed to congregate in the waiting room thus be able to assist with toilet visits
* the hall is not deemed a suitable min size to hold classes (min 9mx9m is required)
* if the hall did meet min sizing, based on the hall size and offering a 3m allowance per person would permit 6 max (min social distance is 2m indoors but to allow a child going the wrong way and stay social distanced are basing on 3m)
* challenging logistics of children being reunited with parents at the end of each class and not exceeding max 6 in venue
* 5 children per class would not cover costs of hall hire and teacher
* cleaning room in between classes would be required
* min 15 mins between classes so no crossover and to allow for room clean would require extended hire and funding.

I understand it is disappointing for the children as it is for us too not holding classes for nearly a year by Jan, but we are in unprecedented times of which we require to adapt ensuring safety is priority.

We offered online classes via zoom from May however only a handful of children pursued this option, Miss Emily is happy to continue to try and accommodate holding zoom classes mid week - if interested I can certainly pass on your details and she will be in touch.

We miss the children and watching them develop and hope they stay safe ❤️

For anyone considering attending the dance workshop in August.

We are still working through the details and hoping to secure a venue so will keep you updated - just thought we’d share for your perusal.

If your child was due to attend our Easter workshop and has already paid, they have an automatic summer place.

If any additional children are considering joining us (assuming we can still go ahead) please comment below and we will be in touch - dates are Mon 3rd Aug - Fri 7/8 £90 (£81 siblings) sadly as it stands there would be no show performance for parents at end of the workshop.
