More Bokken practice again tonight, this time from a Yokomen strike.

Out of the many techniques that can be done with this particular attack, tonight we looked at Shihonage, Irimi nage and Kote gaeshi.

As we did last week, we followed all Bokken led techniques up with the open hand versions to help give the students some context.

Some good progress was made again tonight, as always.

Wednesday practice - run down.

What happened?
Well, as we do every week, we started the lesson with a warm up, followed by practice of Tai sabaki, and Ukemi.

Then, we brought out the Bokken and looked at multiple types of Bokken techniques from a Shomen attack.
These included Irimi nage, Kote gaeshi, and Ikkyo.

After each Bokken technique we followed it with the open hand version, to put everything into context.

It was a good, fun lesson and everyone did very well, as always.

If you would like to know more about Aikido and Bokken techniques, then come and join us next Wednesday at 8pm and take your place on the mats.

I can highly recommend attending this course in Brussels, from 2nd-4th October, under the guidance of Sensei Pierre Citti 8th Dan.

Hop on the Eurostar, it will take you straight to Brussels, and you can be there!

Kettering Aikido club course. 13th September.

On Sunday 13th September 2026, Kettering Aikido club are holding a course.
As always, everyone is welcome to attend Kettering clubs course, no matter what grade, club, style, association or experience. It’s open to everyone.

They are always good days and this promises to be the same.

Course times are 10am until 4pm
Attend all day if you want, or just attend for a few hours if that is all you can manage. It doesn’t matter.

Courses are a great opportunity to learn from new teachers, & develop your art and practice with other people from different clubs.
