What a lovely afternoon! ☀️🎶

After spending yesterday decorating the school, it was nice to have a change of scenery and head into town with my sister. We watched my good friend Matt play a brilliant live set while enjoying the sunshine and the great atmosphere.

Sometimes you need to step away from the jobs and simply enjoy good music, good company and the little moments that make life special. A perfect way to spend a hot, sunny afternoon!

The first of many improvements taking place at Wing Chun Northampton! 🛠️

It’s great to see the school project beginning to take shape, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished result. This is about more than decorating—it’s about creating a better, more welcoming environment for our students and continuing to grow the school.

I couldn’t have achieved this progress without the support of some amazing people. A huge thank you to my student, Paul Bussutill, for generously donating materials, and to Anita and Miroslav—the mum and dad of two of our awesome Little Dragons—for giving up their time to help with the work.

I’m incredibly grateful to have such supportive people within our Wing Chun family. This is only the beginning, and I can’t wait to share the next stages with you all! 🙏🥋

Had a great morning lesson today with these awesome students!

We worked on how maintaining distance gives you more time to see, think and respond. We also explored how the natural flinch response can take you from a relaxed state into a position where you are ready to protect yourself and deal with whatever comes next.

We finished the session by working on Chi Sau and the importance of sticking—maintaining contact, feeling your partner’s movement and responding through timing rather than relying on sight alone.

A brilliant session with plenty of learning, hard work and good energy!

“The calmest person in the room is often the one most aware.”

In Wing Chun, we don’t practise every movement at full speed. Training slowly and consciously gives us time to feel our structure, release unnecessary tension and understand exactly what the body is doing.

By repeating movements with awareness, we are also training the nervous system. Instead of panicking, freezing or reacting through emotion, we learn to remain composed and respond with control.

I believe the same principle applies to everyday life. We live in a world that constantly encourages us to rush and react. Meditation gives us an opportunity to slow down, calm the mind and create space between what happens and how we respond.

Keeping calm isn’t weakness—it is awareness, discipline and strength. Regular meditation can also help us manage stress and support both our mental and physical wellbeing.

Train the body. Calm the mind. Control the response.

“Train with purpose. Respond with control. Walk with confidence.”

One of the things I love about teaching Wing Chun is seeing how the training carries over into everyday life.

When we train with purpose, we give ourselves something to work towards. It might be improving a technique, working through a difficult drill or simply having the courage to walk through the door for the first time.

Responding with control takes practice too. In training, we learn to stay calm under pressure and make better decisions. That same skill can make a real difference when life throws something unexpected at us.

Over time, those small steps build confidence. You start to trust yourself more because you know the effort you have put in and the challenges you have already worked through.

That’s something I want every student to take away from their training. 🙏

“Your new beginning starts the moment you stop allowing the past to control your future.”

The past may have shaped us, taught us and even tested us—but it does not have to define who we become.

Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting what happened. It means accepting what cannot be changed, learning from it and choosing not to carry its weight into the next chapter.

Every new beginning requires us to release something: an old fear, a limiting belief, a regret or a version of ourselves that we have outgrown.

You cannot rewrite yesterday, but you can decide what you do today—and that decision could change everything.

Let go. Move forward. Your next chapter is waiting to be written. 🙏

As children head back to school and settle into a new routine, it’s the perfect time to introduce an activity that builds confidence, focus and self-discipline.

Wing Chun gives children more than practical self-defence skills. It teaches them to listen, stay calm under pressure, overcome challenges and believe in their own abilities—qualities that can support them in the classroom and everyday life.
