As temperatures rise, so does the temptation to cool off in the water.
But before you head to the beach, river, lake, paddling pool or garden pond, take a moment to remember that water can be dangerous in places we least expect.
Drowning is often silent. Open water can trigger cold water shock, even on the hottest days. And a child can drown in just a few centimetres of water.
This week, weโre asking families to:
๐ Know the risks
๐ Stay safe around water
๐ Donโt take the risk โ itโs not worth it
๐ Remember that water safety starts at home too
Whether itโs a paddling pool in the garden or a swim in open water, supervision, preparation and water safety knowledge save lives.
If youโre in difficulty in the water, remember: FLOAT TO LIVE.
๐จ In an emergency, call 999. Ask for the Coastguard at the coast or Fire & Rescue at inland water locations.
Letโs enjoy the sunshine safely and make sure every child gets home safely.
