Important Announcement
There will be no NKL Sprint Series in 2018, our future plans are explained below.
I know this will disappoint a lot of people and I guarantee you all it wasn’t easy for us to come to this decision, it has been obvious to everyone that this year for the NKL team, Luke, James, Tom, Ian and the Whilton Mill staff has been very difficult to manage.
We have made this decision based on a number of factors, one being Whilton Mill’s latest construction work, understandably with the construction of their new race control building, Whilton have decided their focus should be on this building, due for completion in June/July, as part of this shift in focus and to offset the costs slightly, they will not be getting new karts next year. Knowing how close the field is in the NKL and how competitive the competition is, we felt this decision would stop the event from being what everyone wants in 2018, not only that, with construction work potentially going past the half way point of our season we felt this would also have a negative impact on our series.
No doubt you will have all noticed the live stream that was born out of the NKL, now labelled Alpha Live, has gained a lot of momentum during 2017 and looking at 2018 the team will have a lot on their plate with this being their main focus to continue that momentum.
Most of all, we always want to put on the best events we possibly can and with the above noted we do not feel we will be able to regularly do so.
Now looking forwards, it has been agreed with Whilton Mill that they will hold an open event on the 1st Monday of every month from March through to October, so if you want to race at Whilton you will still be able to do so, Whilton will announce formats and costs in the new year, this will not be a championship series.
The NKL team are looking to organise a bank holiday “Fun” day in 2018 which will have sprint races and an endurance race during the day, we are currently looking at the late may bank holiday (28th May) If you would be interested in this event please say so below in the comments, we will get plans for this arranged in January.
Lastly, we will sit down at the end of 2018 and re-evaluate the situation. Assuming we feel we can put on events people will enjoy and or to high standard we will do so in 2019.
I hope you all understand the situation we are in, we have done what we can to make sure you can still race in 2018 and we hope you can all still enjoy your year.
We would just like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy new year.
