Denton FC is an amateur football club that play in the Peter Smith Recruitment Northampton Town Football League. Denton first entered the league as a Division 1 outfit in the 2004-2005 season and had a successful campaign finishing 4th winning 10 of there 20 games in the season. The 2005-2006 season was not so successful as Denton struggled to find consistency although they enjoyed an excellent ru
n at the end of the season beating the eventual league winners Airflow Reserves 4-3 and battering Kingsthorpe Wanderers 5-0. Denton had high hopes for the 2006-2007 season and a 5 match unbeaten run during November and December had them fighting at the top of the table but unfortunately they ended the season badly losing there last 5 games and eventually finished 9th. The 2007-2008 season saw Denton unexpectedly promoted to the Premier Division as the league organisers tried to bring balance to the divisions. For Denton this would be there hardest season yet as they tried to compete in a league which was simply too good for them. They won 2 games but only as a result of the teams they were meant to play not being able to field a team. There best achievement of the season was an excellent 4-4 draw with the league Champions Northampton Harlequins. 2008-2009 saw Denton have another attempt at life in the Premier Division but once again the club found themselves out of their depth, Denton endured a long hard season and suffered some heavy defeats and after a 10 match losing streak midway through the season there were fears the club would fold. But down to the pure grit and determination of the squad they battled it out and towards the end of the season fresh faces injected some spirit back into the team. With the confidence high Denton had a great end to the season losing just 1 of there last 5 games. Russ Coleman took charge of the club for the 2009-2010 season and pleaded with the league organisers to drop Denton to league 1, a decision which the organisers eventually accepted. He began developing a strong squad and after the heartache and struggle of the previous two seasons Denton had what would be there most successful season yet. They were fierce title contenders right the way through the season eventually finishing second to A.F.C Wombles. They narrowly missed out playing at the Sixfields in the FA N.B.C. Cup Final after losing to SPA 5-2 in the Semi Final. The club won an impressive 14 out of the 20 games they played that season, clocking up a club record 45 points in a season, they also had an 8 match unbeaten run, another club record. Denton won promotion back to the Premier Division for the 2010-2011 season and they have had a very impressive start to the campaign beating A.F.C Wombles 6-1 on the opening day of the season and ending Northampton Harlequins 18 month unbeaten run by beating them 3-0 in the Northampton Town FA Gorell Barnes Cup first round being the biggest achievements. Denton are currently 4th in the league and have won 5 of the 8 games they have played so far.
