Ipplepen 1-1 Appledore
Considering the players we had missing and the number of lads playing out of position, we probably would have taken a point before the game. But after the chances we created, it definitely feels like two points dropped.
We started the game really well and were by far the better side in the opening stages, moving the ball around nicely and creating chances. We deservedly took the lead when a brilliant ball into the box found Jake, who rose highest and headed it into the far corner.
We had opportunities to make it 2-0 but couldn’t take them, and we were made to pay just before half time. A poor clearance fell to an Ipplepen player unmarked on the edge of the box, who found the corner to bring them level.
It should have been 2-1 to Appledore before the break when Brian Levien was played through on goal, but the Ipplepen keeper made a good save to keep the scores level.
1-1 at half time.
Ipplepen came out much stronger in the second half and put us under pressure looking for a second goal. The lads defended well and made it difficult for them, with both sides having opportunities as the half went on.
The weather certainly didn’t help either, making it difficult for either team to play much football in the second half, and neither side could find the winning goal.
Another point on the road. Not the result we wanted after the chances we had, but a good team performance considering the circumstances. We had to dig in at times and showed plenty of resilience to come away with something.
