North Walsham Town U9s travelled to Stoke United for their opening fixture of the new season, looking to build on the momentum gained from some impressive end-of-season tournament performances.
Town started brightly and quickly showed they were more than capable of competing against a strong and physical Stoke side. Despite the challenge posed by the hosts, the visitors battled hard all over the pitch and worked well as a team.
There was a special moment for Elijah, who was making his competitive debut for the club. He took everything in his stride, settling into the game well and linking up confidently with his teammates throughout.
Further forward, Kayden and George led the press superbly, putting the Stoke defence under pressure whenever they were in possession while Ellis was his usual energetic self, working tirelessly to support both attack and defence.
At the back, Finley produced a commanding display. Reading the game brilliantly, he was strong in the tackle and made a number of crucial interceptions to break up Stoke attacks before they could become dangerous. Whenever the home side did manage to get through, Toby was on hand in goal, making a series of excellent saves to keep North Walsham in the contest.
This was always going to be a tough opening fixture for Town, but there were plenty of positives to take away from the performance. The team showed resilience, determination and a willingness to work for each other, providing a solid foundation to build on as the season progresses.
This weekโs man of the match went to Finley for his dominant defensive performance. Well done, Finley!
