Here's my take on the event last night. (I wont add the word Boxing).
Now, this will no doubt put me in the bracket of the 'uneducated' and 'idiot' that people like me have been branded as for having the audacity to raise concerns of what it is doing for the sport. Some of these people think my concerns are just how it impacts professional boxing but in actual fact its amateur boxing and the impact it has which is worse.
Now I respect anyone that puts themselves out there to earn money, even if it means trying to generate hate on themselves due to being controversial, but that should still come with wider responsibilities of what you are promoting.
All ive seen is videos and posts glorifying sly digs, gang fights, weapons, call out videos with fair play bo****ks, multiple fights inside and outside of the venue and all has been attached to the fighters and this event.
Please remember who is watching this s**t!!!
We are currently going through an unprecedented volume of anti social behaviour, gang crime, increased violence on our streets and alot of this is due to the glorifying of acceptance that its the new norm to act like that. Wannabe gangsters getting paid stupid money on what used to be respectable platforms.
Amateur Boxing for years has battled with a stigma that Boxing is all about violence and its very difficult to turn around that assumption by promoting the good that it does. When youre not just in the sport for the money and clout its a tough old world trying to run clubs, trying to keep these young people on the straight and narrow and most of all trying to keep them safe.
Misfits is single handedly ruining that image (in my opinion which is allowed by the way).
I will however give Kudos to the other unlicensed boxing event last night called Gorilla which looked to be a very good promotion with some very good level fighters on and looked to be generally respectable. Well done 👏
I suppose my message to people who are thinking all boxing is like , please dont brand the sport with the same brush. Its not boxing, its a style of entertainment some enjoy. For the purists and boring old farts like me, let's keep doing what we are doing. Its a short term fad that will go away!!!
Now I have no doubt this will rub some up the wrong way but those that know me also know despite me not agreeing with it I still respect 'some'of them involved and class some as friends and appreciate why they are involved. Im sure they can also appreciate my opinion due to the constant battle we have trying to educate people and communities in the good that the sport provides.
Any how, I hope everyone returned home safe!
Those that caused violence and decided to act hard for a night, I hope you get a case of severe man flu 😀
Rant over
